Briggs Flathead / 18 hp mods, will it last ?
« on: October 26, 2013, 08:16:11 pm »
i am in the midst of building an 18 hp oppy. splash lube. not a puller or racer just a kick my brother (you know what) around the yard. i have an 18 hp in my suburban and it needs a little more. i have a set of heads and cam from a 20 hp oppy and wanted to know if the stock rods with the oiling mods would last. not going over 4k rpm. the intake ports will get massaged out a little but other than that its gonna more or less be stock. so will it last or will i have to shell out all kinds of money on those arc rods ?

If you can get your hands on one cheap. An ultrasonic cleaner is about the best way to clean a carb and all its little passages. We have a big one at work that we put cylinder heads in. I tossed a carb in off my kx for about an hour came out looking like new.

« on: May 10, 2013, 11:32:22 am »
im new to this fourm, but not new to engines by any means. how ever all my experience is on industrial diesels. so with that in mind... i have a 18 hp twin opposed briggs im putting in one of my suburbans. i have read a lot about the oil mods to keep these things alive but cannot seem to find them when i do a search. as i have the engine tore apart and am in the middle of rebuilding it i would like to make it last for as long as i can. ie my cummins makes 650hp and has 243k miles on it. i just want good power and it to last as long as it can. any help is greatly appreciated.
