Tecumseh Engines / A.C.E. Race engines/ Ron Atchison
« on: June 25, 2012, 09:19:36 pm »
Anyone looking to make their Tecumseh 17 ohv kick some tail, get ahold of Ron.  He did a head and cam for me.  I am more than pleased with the quality of his work.  He has been very helpful with my setup, and answers any questions I have had along the way.  I was a little apprehensive trying someone new, but his prices are good and the turnaround time is great as well. He is not limited to just Indians.  I thinks he works on any brand motor. Definetly going to be sending more business his way.

Tires / Good news!
« on: February 09, 2012, 09:14:23 am »
I saw on CNN news last night that Carlisle is not going to be making tires overseas anymore. They are moving their production back to the US.  Some of their tires were always made in the states, but now all of them will be.

Driveline / Inside diameter of 1 1/4 axle ?
« on: November 29, 2011, 09:20:49 am »
Before I go buy one, does anyone know what the I.D. of a .250 wall 1 1/4" axle is.  I wanted to cut it in half and slide it over 3/4" axles on a transaxle so I can run 1 1/4 hardware and it wouldn't be so easily bendable.  I didn't know if it would fit tight enough over the 3/4" axles.  Thanks for any input.

Briggs Flathead / anyone ever use one of these pumps
« on: June 27, 2011, 10:33:47 pm »
I am running a mikuni fuel pump on my 31 flatty.  It is a new pump.  The motor runs very strong and idles fine.  Problem is when I am running parade laps or during a caution, the motor dies.  Running out of fuel.  It will start back up after some cranking.  WOT is perfect.   Runs like a champ.  My pulse is off the intake.  Just wondering if this pump doesn't get enough pulse to pump at lower rpms to keep up. I am sure I will figure out my problem, just wondering if anyone has ever run one of these pumps or had any issues with them.  The carb has fuel pump needle and seat as well and is externally vented.

Driveline / Peerless 400 input shaft and gear
« on: September 14, 2010, 08:56:01 pm »
Has anyone running a 400 ever had a problem with the snap ring holding the gear to the top of the input shaft break off causing the input shaft to drop down.  I had this happen at the start of the season.  My answer to it was to weld the gear to the input shaft so it wouldn't happen again.  Guess what, after about 8 races, it broke just under the weld causing the shaft to drop down again.  I noticed after tearing it apart, the gear had some wear to it.  I replaced it with a newer gear and shaft out of a peerless 600 that looks almost new.  Now this gear is held on by a snap ring again, but seems to be less sloppy.  I guess I am going to put it together and try it.  I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.  Maybe it just had too much back lash.  I run the tranny in 2nd gear 1:1 behind a built 30 cube vanny v-twin.  The tranny is totaly rebuilt with all new seals and bearings as well, at the beginning of the season.  My pulleys are both 5" cast iron.  Thanks for any input.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 10% ethanol gas sucks
« on: August 27, 2010, 03:24:53 pm »
Was doing some cleaning on my motor before tonights race. I run a mikuni on my vanny 30 cube.  I removed the carb for cleaning and found that the gas has been eating away at the rubber boot.  It didn't put a hole in it, but made the rubber very soft like silicone.  You can actually scrape it off with your finger nail.  My guess is that it will only be a matter of time before it eats it away comletely.  My only guess of what is causing this is the 10% ethanol crap gas we have around here in Northern New York.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / vanguard valve seat angles

I know the factory angles of my 30 cube valves are 45 deg.  Just wondering what the angles of the seats are supposed to be?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / vanguard diode
« on: May 11, 2010, 08:03:32 am »
Could a bad diode possibly cause you to lose 1 cylinder at higher rpms and then then die out?  When you let off the throttle both cylinders pick back up.  I have checked just about everything I can think of twice.  Only thing I havent changed is the diode.  The motor was ready to race with lots of test laps, then I parked it for about a week, took it out to test some more and starts in with this problem.

30 cube vanny
long rod- cut pistons
arc wheel
cheetah cam
dual srprings-billit retainers
tilly HR
210 compression on both cylinders

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 16hp 30ci vanguard rockers
« on: February 06, 2010, 06:28:47 am »
I am putting together a 16hp vanny v-twin and wondering if the stock rockers I have will hold up.  I am running a cheetah cam and ec dual springs and retainers.  The type of rocker I have is part number 692103 or 808159. I am not sure which one I have because they both look the same on the parts list.  Anyway, I am trying to get away with not having to buy the $300 roller rockers, and wondering if these will hold up or if there is a better stock replacement setup.  Thanks for the help.
