Briggs Flathead / Rebuild question
« on: October 23, 2008, 07:07:49 pm »
I have a GTR 31 with E.C. Dominator and all the goodies. I have about 20-25 races on it. It isn't smoking or loosing power, I change oil every 2 races with Mobil 1. How many races do you guys expect to get before you have to go through it and freshen it up?

Thanks,

Briggs Flathead / Nippo Starter question
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:52:39 pm »
Can you replace the solenoid on these? The ones for the ARC Flywheel. Something shorted on my mower Sat night when I went to start it. Sparks flew and then it wouldn't do anything. We jumped across the solenoid so I could run the feature. I have just started tearing into it. It could be several things, one of which is the solenoid. I have the amp meter out running through everything. I am thinking that's it's not the solenoid, just checking so if it comes to that, I will know what to do.

Thanks,

Post Your Video / Tecumseh vs Briggs

An OHV Tecumseh trying to run down my Don/George built 31 Flattie. It was a good race. Chassis setup played a big part in it.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / OHV Question
« on: August 28, 2008, 11:41:20 am »
A friend of mine just picked up an OHV motor he is going to put on his racer. It runs, but has no tins with it. The guy he got it from said it was a 14 1/2, anyways he put tins on it and fired it up. It is running way too lean, so much so that the exhaust pipe was glowing. It has a non-adjustable highside, we tore the carb apart and it looks like the jet runs sideways (it is a Walbro). Do they make a carb like that or have just been breathing too much gas?

My fuel mixture is way too lean...so much so that the exhaust pipe was glowing. Do they make an high side adjustable needle for these and would it help any?

« on: August 10, 2008, 01:55:43 pm »
All winter and season long, I had been building my mower. I got it finished, but couldn't race due to a ruptured disc in my back. I finally got to run it this weekend for the first time. I took 1st in Heat and 2nd in Feature. Thanks to George at E.C. and Don at G-Team for that parts to make this baby haul grass!!!

Driveline / A couple of 350 questions
« on: July 28, 2008, 06:15:17 pm »
I am running a G-Team Race Prepped 350. I have noticed that going from 1st to 2nd, I have to jam it in there and I have had it jump out of 2nd on me a couple of times. Has anyone else had this problem or have any solutions?

Chassis / Direct steer ?
« on: July 20, 2008, 06:49:29 pm »
This may be covered in here somewhere, but I couldn't locate it if it is. Does it matter which front tire you run your drag link to? I am going to red my front end this week, right now it runs to the left front. Is that right, wrong, space depentan, or just preference?

Briggs Flathead / Another exhaust question
« on: July 11, 2008, 06:12:58 pm »
Right now I have a Snapper exhaust pipe on my GTR 31, The guy that is going complete it can't get to it till next week. I have a race tomorrow and was wondering, would it be safe to run it with just the Snapper exhaust pipe or would it be too short and risk warping a valve?

Chassis / Steering question
« on: June 28, 2008, 09:08:48 pm »
I have noticed on my new build I just finished that you can turn the wheel Right with no effort, but requires alot to turn Left. I have checked everything a couple of times and can't find a reason for it. Could it be the way I have the caster set up?

Driveline / Steel sprocket

Anyone know where I can find a 49 tooth 2 piece steel sprocket for 1 1/4" axle? Or do they make steel ones?

Pretty much done except bolting down the seat, bleeding brakes and finishing up the wiring. It has a GTR 31 Flattie with an ARC Flywheel and a E.C. Dominator carb. Weighs in at 293 Lb.

Driveline / Gearing question
« on: May 26, 2008, 11:20:51 am »
I am looking into getting a couple of extra sprockets so as to have multiple gearing options for different tracks. I am assuming that you would want to change the rear sprocket for ease. Right now I am running a 23 on the 350 and a 42 on rear axle. If I wanted 1 sprocket for lower gearing and 1 for higher, how many teeth would be a good place to start? I have never messed with sprockets on a mower before and don't want to waste a lot of time and money guessing. I know you guys can't tell me precisely, but I figured you could get me in the ball park or how much of a difference a certain number of teeth make.

Driveline / Chain tensioner
« on: May 25, 2008, 07:32:52 pm »
Does anyone on here run without a chain tensioner or does everybody run one? I am having issues trying a place to mount mine for my 350 and was wondering if there was a way to race without one. If not, I'll come up with something.

Chassis / Toe in or out question
« on: May 25, 2008, 01:03:24 pm »
A friend of mine that races late models told me this morning that I should be running about 1/8" toe out on outside front wheel. I have always ran mine about as nuetral as I could get it. Does what he is saying make sense on mowers or is it a totally different ball game. He was saying that you want one wheel to turn a bit sharper than the other. To my mentally challanged mind that sounds crazy. Any input on this?

Thanks,
Pork Chop
