Title: The Zombie Outbreak Response Mower
Post by: Craigsnedeker on November 19, 2012, 07:05:47 pm
Hey zombie hunters,

I finally got my mower, which is a Scott (John Deere) that needs a little work. I have plans on, if possible, turning it into a racing mower. But until then, I'm working on it's appearance, and I'm taking a zombie outbreak response vehicle theme.

Plans:
- Custom military themed paint job.
- Black/armored wheels.
- Supply/medical bag mounted on hood and another one next to seat.
- Pistol mount on side of hood.
- Axe mounted on rear of mower.
- And a zombie hunting permit slapped on.

If I'm not very active on this forum, I do have a Tumblr blog where you can follow my progress. http://zombieoutbreakmower.tumblr.com

Build (to date)

Got her home (yesterday). She won't start, but we'll take care of that soon enough.

Took her hood and grill apart for paint prep (yesterday).

And the rest of this is today's progress.

Friend came over and cleaned the carb and tried to get it running, but she wouldn't start.

Got a few more ideas and we're gonna give it a shot tomorrow.

good job so far it looks like you starters not turning over fast enough charge your battery all the way up and try again or try a different battery if its not that maybe start or solenoid had that problem on my lt1000 it was the starter but prolly a half dead battery and its prolly not the solenoid unless sometime she wont turn over and you dont even hear the solenoid click goo luck

Not sure yet. I didn't find out until 30 minutes ago that hydrosatic's kinda suck stink for speed.

My options at this point are doing a tranny swap or just using this for general mowing/show.

where are you located i got 3 transmissions if interested a spicer a peerless and one out of a toro 12 /38 the 12/38 one was origonaly a racer or you can run a centrifugal clutch chain drive from the motor to this http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=13-1423&catname=powerTrans to a go kart axle a little expensive but one speed and a whole lot simpler and also you can still make a hydrostatic go faster with bigger wheels it wont be much faster unless you put 31s of of a pickup if you do that you can just run them zombies over

Long time no see.

Nice weather so I did a little work on the mower, painting some random crap and kinda planning out what I want to do next, which I think will be drop the deck to clean it and paint it with bedliner.

Also, how do I take my wheels off? I need to clean and paint them.

And what about these things? They are held down with these plastic things and they won't squeeze through the holes.

Thanks

Remove the rubber in the center of the front tires with channel locks and there's a hair pin  under the cap remove that with needle nose pliers.   Now the plastic floor pads squeeze the plastic clip under the pad with pliers and lift up slowly

Thank you!
I'll give these a shot and let you know how it goes.

Also, here is a quick photoshopped image:

I took the cap of the wheel off and found this.

Not sure what to do yet to take the wheel off. I don't want to try until I can jack it up.

Also got these off. I just had to yank!

That is called a cir-clip or c-clip. Look close at the axle and you'll see the grove that the clip slides in. The clips are rather 'springy' but they will slide off with ease. For the race track these are not allowed. The clip can be replaced by drilling a hole through the axle (where the clip slides on) and installing a cotter pin.

Okay thanks. Once I take that clip out, the wheel should slide off? I'm not gonna race it, so no worries there just need to take the wheels off to access something and to paint them.

Yes the wheels should then slide off. Just keep up with the key for the axle for when you put the wheels back on.

I'm not gonna race it,

Hey zombie hunters, I have plans on, if possible, turning it into a racing mower.

So why don't you just drill it for cotter pins while you have it down.
I have seen faster than stock mowers pop this clip off, and ruin a grill or hood.

Good idea, I don't know if I have the tools to do that though. :(

I'll be painting as soon as the humid weather goes away. I got gloss black on the wheels when I meant to use flat black. Oops.
