Title: Can it be resleeved? Ch25s vtwin
Post by: DWilliamS13 on March 30, 2013, 03:58:54 am
So I was given a 25 hp horizontal vtwin command pro. That's where the good news stop. It blew a rod and apparently shot a lifter through the bottom of one of the cylinders. Upon further inspection it almost looks like the block has been resleeved once before. The chunk it took out of the cylinder is all the way up to the lifter housing and roughly 1.5 to 2 inches wide. Is this block even savable?

Just de-stroke the factory crank, run short skirt pistons and long rods, and put nee sleeves or no sleeves in it and turn it 14,000 rpm.

Get a Photobucket account, then choose the thumbnail version of the pics, and that will work.

Oh and thank you Marc

No problem... I do more than gripe.  :noplease:

One of the engine builders may come along and give you some advice on this block.

CAN YOU GET A BETTER PIC, IT'S REALLY HARD TO SEE WHAT AND EXACTLY WHERE. MAYBE A COUPLE DIFFERENT ANGLES. MOST TIMES YOU CAN RESLEEVE DEPENDING ON WHICH SLEEVE GOT USED. THEY COME IN DIFFERENT THICKNESSES AND YOU MAY BE ABLE TO USE THE NEXT SIZE UP!

I would smooth it and run it - I had to MAKE one of my cylinders look like that for rod clearance - no issues.  It is not in the travel of the rings in the cylinder wall.

Even though the break is not in the ring travel area I would check the cylinder for out of round in that area before I ran it. That is if you decide not to resleeve it.

Awesome. Well I think it's going to get sent out and sleeve it to a 27 hp since I will be resleeving it. Thanks for all the help.

Since you're already going to have it sleeved...why not take it all the way out as far as it'll go?

Yeah that kinda would make sense to just take it out to 30. Who is a good at reworking a carb for this motor. The one that came with it is pretty rough. It has the accel pump. Or would I be better off going with a 2 barrel or like a reworked #30 of a k341?

Depends what class. For bp/super sportsman 2 barrel. For supermod type, mikuni, tilly, 2 barrell.

So what's the biggest bore size you can go on 25hp blocks ?

This motor is going to be used on an "off-road" machine so I looking for good response and rev ability while producing a lot of torque. All in all I am looking to only do a mild build. Light head work and valve work replace rods pushrods and lifters for better durability and have a mild cam made. Fit a appropriate carb and add a lil timing.
