Post your Pics! / 2008 ARMA LaGrange, Ind. race

Redline got me diggin into my electronic archives. Found these. They're not that good (shot with a generic camera) but if any of y'all want any, have at em. Most of them are junk, but worth a look I reckon.

Mowmentum Magazine / All-American trip
« on: October 06, 2009, 07:30:00 pm »
My wife tentatively agreed to cut the chord and let me go to the All-American Mower Championships.

I'll bring with me 20 copies of the october and 30 copies of the November edition (hot off the press at that time). $5 when I'm down there. Let me know if these numbers are too high. Anyone interested in a print edition that will be there, let me know. I can't go higher than 50 total copies, tho.

Aaron
PM or email me to reserve your copies. Forgot to add that. story_teller911@yahoo.com, grasskicker911@hotmail.com or call I reckon.

Mowmentum Magazine / Driver profile questionairre
« on: October 06, 2009, 11:59:10 am »
Below is a driver profile sheet that I made up. Ideally, I'd like to have one of these in a month, randomly selected with a picture.

Print it out, write over the top of it, re-pdf it ...whatever you need to do to get it back to me, feel free to do so. I've listed both my email accounts and my home address if you'd rather mail it to me with a picture. That's completely up to you.

I think we're gathering some steam here. It's getting pretty exciting on my end...

Mowmentum Magazine / Mowmentumonline(dot)com is a work in progress
« on: October 06, 2009, 10:38:15 am »
But it does finally have the the October edition posted there. My cousin has the patience of Job. It's not officially ready to go yet, but pretty dang close. Still ironing out a few kinks in it.

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/335264/mow10.pdf

The website is just a supplement to the print edition, and as I get more family with Internet lingo, we can add more stuff on there.

Heymow will always be the hub of information, though, and the generating of ideas will always come through this site and the loyal patrons here. Thanks for all the support.

Feedback of the finished product is needed though. I've only gotten two comments, and would like a lot more feedback!

Mowmentum Magazine / LIST YOUR CLUB
« on: October 02, 2009, 01:20:17 pm »
Here's a chance to list your club, or if you're pioneering a club, get it chartered before Nov. 25, 2009 for the December edition!

Respond with:
Club Name (ACRONYM in Parenthesis)
Contact:
Location:
Website (If applicable)
And any other important stuff I'm forgetting.

If you have time, list tracks and street addresses so we can label them.

Mowmentum Magazine / Graphic art project needed
« on: October 02, 2009, 11:48:09 am »
If anyone is skilled in InDesign or I suppose even Photoshop that would want to work on a project for the December edition, here's what I have in mind ... I'd do it, but I'm terrible with artsy-type programs and don't have the patience to finish it.

Here's the concept:

A image of the United States with the Eastern Seaboard of Canada included. Put a clever icon, maybe a tire or something, for location of clubs. Next to the tire, include contact information maybe? In the whitespace where the centeral and western part of Canada would be, give the US and ARMA and SOMA national contacts...

Any feedback? This will take a little research and a couple phone calls maybe ... Again, not until the December issue, so you would have all of October and the two-thirds of November to work on it.

I think a key, though, would be needed so folks know who to get a hold of and plan weekend vacations. Maybe a "Green Flag" icon to show the different tracks ...

Mowmentum Magazine / FREE FIRST EDITION
« on: October 01, 2009, 06:19:27 pm »
I've been giving this a lot of thought. October and November will be free. Email me at story_teller911@yahoo.com and I'll email a huge PDF to you with all 16 pages. Looking at the magcloud site, I wasn't 100 percent satisfied with my template ... it looked like some of the text fell off the page. So, to make it right, I'll email anyone that wants the first edition.

Thinking on it, it's a gamble for you guys to spend $5-7 on something that you can only see a small image of. I know the products good, however I don't know of the print quality, the template working correctly and all of that.

With that in mind, I'll email anyone that wants one the entire edition, goofy ads and all, at no charge. If you already ordered your magazine, I'll refund your money and you can keep the edition.

I guess I put the cart before the horse and didn't order proofs myself to see the print quality, so for that, I'm sorry.

Just ask, and I'll email it to you... November's too.

Mowmentum Magazine / Reasons to believe...
« on: October 01, 2009, 11:49:03 am »
The good thing about the Internet is that anyone can be anything under the disguise of a false reality.
One thing I want to reassure to all of you who may participate, buy or advertise in "Mowmentum" is that I'm for real. As Popeye would say, "I am what I am and that's all that I am."
Well, for me, I'm a story teller and an editor. We do share one common passion, though, and that's lawnmowers and the racing of such. My work address is www.perutribune.com if you want to fact check me.
I've been in the newspaper industry for 12 years, and it wasn't until a month ago that a fire was rekindled that was nearly extinguished after the day-to-day routine of drug busts, court proceedings and commissioner meetings.
Without giving my complete resume, I will say this, that you're content and ideas are safe with me. There's a brain-trust, so to speak, that I've bounced several ideas off of, and in turn, have had some bounced back to me.
For three years, I was a sports editor in the hills of Southern Indiana, and covered the historic Salem Speedway (half-mile asphalt, similar to Bristol in build and bank), and several dirt tracks around the area. So I'm familiar with the racing lingo and how to recap events.
Then I moved back to Northern Indiana and found the Twelve Mile 500 (twelvemile500.com) and built my first few mowers.
I guess the biggest thing I can advise is to participate and be involved in this magazine. I can't do it all myself, although I'll sure make a run at it, and bounce ideas off of me.
I believe in this product and the potential. More logistics need to be ironed out, but by the January edition, we should have a monthly budget that will leave you gripping the steering wheel tight until the product arrives in the mail.
Thanks, everyone, for your support. To quote George's signature, "Wow, what a ride!" and this only the first month!

Your humble editor,

Aaron

Feedback question for the "Heymow Hints" page:

What's the last thing you check before taking the track and why?

Mowmentum Magazine / IMOW/Super Stock story
« on: September 30, 2009, 11:37:51 pm »
A neat feature story that I'd appreciate comments on is the IMOW/Super Stock division. I know at the us nationals, Pierece and one of the Sullivans raced the same machine in JP and IMOW. (And this thread was in the Coffee Shop, too). What's it like participating in so much back-and-forth racing?

Follow up question, what's a realistic ball park for a starter mower...?

Mowmentum Magazine / Magazine deadlines revisted
« on: September 30, 2009, 07:55:06 pm »
Deadline for the November edition will be Oct. 22. That leaves me a week to design the content and get it to the printer and upload to magcloud by the first of November.

Stories may be submitted in any fashion, complete stories (which would include your byline if you want[trust me, it's neat to see your name in print and I've been doing it for 12 years]) or just finishin order and I can compose them into a little story.

Spelling of names is very important. The rest of the grammar I can catch, although a few typos can be expected.

Thanks for the support everyone. Looking forward to working with you quite a bit more.

Here are a few pics from the nationals. I'll upload more after 5 ... hate to abuse the company's high-speed too much.

I don't know most of these guys' names, but they seemed like good folks. Got a bunch more I'll put on later. If you were there, shoot me a PM and I'll see if I have an action shot of ya.

Driveline / Losing neutral?
« on: July 15, 2007, 10:56:16 pm »
Has anyone ever heard of losing neutral? It happened on my Peerless 820. After a race, on a course so tight I could only get in second, I brought it back to the pit and I couldn't hit neutral. I ended up taking the direct drive off and put on a centrifugal pulley system, that way I really don't need it as long as the RPMs are down. The shifter rod (Toro 210) is just off the steering column. Have to depress it to get in reverse. But there's no stop between 1st and neutral, and no position on the rearend where the wheels can spin free. Ever witnessed this before?
