Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Leaky Lucy

All of the engines that I've installed the ARC rods in have been pretty smooth. They are pretty well balanced but it wouldn't hurt to have it done.

The ignition timing you can with an offset timing key for the flywheel. I know EC sells them.

Briggs didn't start putting the 49 rods in them until around 08'. As Paul said it has the weak 40/44 rods unless someone has replaced them. The 49 rods are much thicker on the beam of the rod. You would have to see the two side by side.

No they are not. They are only legal in FX, FXS, and FXT classes.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Best Intek Cam?
« on: May 01, 2014, 11:19:42 pm »
Best camshaft, you will get many opinions on that one but probably the most common you will hear is the Precision Cheetah cam. I strongly disagree but I won't go there. As for carb, the 2 barrel Nikki carb is your best choice (in BP your only other option is a single barrel). However there is a couple different Nikki carbs you can choose from. The stock Intek carbs always worked well for me but many use a nikki 2 barrel from the vanguard. If I had to pick between the two, give me the stock Intek carb.

Yes you will do a lot of leaning to the left.

You will get mixed opinions on this. I never tried a foot throttle but you could use one from an old kart. I've watched at several races and from my observation I noticed guys with a hand throttle seem to have better control. Unless you have something to hold you r foot teady in place you will be on and off the throttle.

That will make a nice racer. I love the old school styles and that sheetmetal looks to be in great shape.

Kohler Engines / Re: That start of all my kohler ?? To come

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought ARC had made billet rods to use with stock pistons. May want to check in on that if you plan on using stock pistons.

Chassis / Re: help with lowering

Got to have tires on wheels that you intend to use. Mount them on mower and measure from ground to frame. Subtract 2 1/2" from frame.

Id go with the green Rally mower. Its an AYP frame. They are easy to build and lots of sheetmetal can be found. I prefer an AYP chassis after all that I've built in the past.

What is the EFM yall are referring to? The engine at the link Jeff posted is not fuel injected.
