Are there any GT Pulling Clubs in your area (you'd be surprized how far they'll travel)

Have "Them" put on the full compitition pull.... They will supply scales, sled and a fair complement of tractors as well as competitor insurance....

All you have to do is supply the dirt track and workers and drag back tractors..

Then if you can... get some local guys to fit in the "class rules" and pull with the group.

Not much point in "run what you brung/ pull as far as you can" if the tractors aren't "equalized" by scales or class rules...

Rugg is out of business, but you can still find pieces laying about...

So you could concievably put on newer (or older) parts, used of course, to compleate machine...

Might have to do a litle looking and waiting...but they are out there...

Far as steering flex goes, there should be a 3/16" x 1 1/4" flat bar supporting the rear of the hood....It goes up from frame, ties to bearing plate (upper steering rod support) and back down to frame...

Between that and the lower "triangle" bushing plate on frame front, steering rod/wheel was quite solidly mounted....

Do you have all the parts that go with the hood/rod asembly...?

A 36-38 tooth 40 sprocket is only going to be about 4" OD so might not be practical to fit on a split sprocket hub...

May be stuck with sprocket/hub combo....and probably in steel...

When I was racing closest race was 1 1/2 hr away (except for the time I talked the county Fair into sponsoring a race in my hometown) ...

Most were in the 2 1/2 to 4 hour range for "local" chapter racing...Never had a National/Regional race in our state, so to hit 4 of them a year ment 8, 10 and 12 hour trips to neighboring states (didn't help that I live out in the woods between a couple great lakes)...

Then the once a year "Nationals" (16 Hr to Ohio) and a couple 20 hr trips top Tennessee for the All American...

You do what you got to do to get your racing "fix".. meaning if you want to go against some top level guys...it's probably not gonna be your neighborhood doing it..

Most "stock" classes arent exactly stock off the lawn if you read the clubs rules...Very few have an "off the lawn" class..

You will need a set of rules from the club you plan on pulling with...Once you read thru it and pick a class the rule book will tell you what you can and cannot do to your tractor...

What I do with mine may not be legal in your group and vice versa...

This site http://gardentractorpullingtips.com/index.htm will give you a good basic build up and when you get more specific questions we can help you here...

To be honest your starting out with two strikes against you already with a lawnmower "chassis" and a vertical shaft motor...You might be better served looking for a different "tractor" chassis machine to start...

Something with a horizontal shaft motor...then go with a clutch/driveshaft/cub cadet rear end type setup or a belt drive "sidewinder" heavy cast iron transaxle setup...
