Briggs Flathead / Re: Supercharging

Wow, so much misinformation in this thread.
As someone who has built & run engines in excess of 2000hp with all three methods of forces induction (n2o, turbo, blower) all I can say is do not take advice from someone who hasn't done it successfully.

If so could I send you my bell and buy a pulley from you and have it installed??

Thank you,
Darren

I would not put either one of those on an AP chassis?
Put an FX engine on it.
Ok, Well I don't really know what class of chassis I would have but I know it is a well built and solid platform. We have no "Classes" here and its kinda run whatcha brung and hope you brung enough!!

Just wondering what engine I have is worth building as I want to run a RAGB and noram star.

If you have to buy new pistons, Aires (not sure thats spelled right) makes a great flat top piston for the 49 cu. Took about 010 out of the bore for a good fit.
When you call Arias Pistons, Ask for Mike Nelson. He is a longtime racer, tuner, nitrous guy and VERY knowledgable of engines/piston design and knows how to play with CH height, ect to get the best power & reliability out of your bulllet. He also is a long time friend and will give you a decent discount if you tell him Darren "Clownboy" Hall sent you.

Are these good platforms to build and what are the pros/cons of this vs. a Kohler 22hp twin besides cubes. I have both and need to choose what to build. It is basically an AP chassis that I am starting with.

YES YES, the bell is the clutch bell if yours has a bushing then its prolly a 14 tooth or smaller. That being the case machine the sprocket off to fit the inside diameter of the pulley. I would not use anything smaller than a 4.5

Ok, Gotcha.....We always call that the "Drum", Had me confused for a bit.

Use an 18 tooth bell go to TSC and buy the pulley of choice and it slides right on OH press bearing out before tigging pulley on
Thanks George, The drum didn't have a bearing only a bronze bushing. Will that be a problem??
Do you have a link for that pulley??

What do most use (cast, stamped, billet) and i know they need to be welded to the drum but does anyone have a pic of how they did it or a description??

George, it is 2.2-1 on methanal, the same thing you were buying from Ryan.
He is correct. You need 120% more fuel when using alcohol.

Driveline / Re: RAGB and cent. clutch.....Which ones to use??
« on: August 14, 2011, 11:02:40 am »
The Peerless 90 box is all I have ever seen... they come off of mower decks.

I like the Norma Star clutch . You would need to have a pulley tigged or migged to the case. Maybe George or another racer can show a pic of this mod.

If you are running ungoverned you can order the higher engagement springs.
Thanks Jason!!
So the RAGB's are pretty cheap and easy to come by and the clutches are about $300??

I have a 19" flatty and will also be swapping a 40" kohler on for different events. What is the box and clutch that would work best and what do you all run?? Thanks.
