Briggs Flathead / pipes?
« on: May 28, 2007, 10:48:47 pm »
On my 12 HP Briggs i run 1" for about 8 inches, then it goes to 2 1/2"
the rest of the way(about 32"). However when at full throttle, if i quickley
let off down to an iddle, it makes a few loud pops.
Is this because of back pressure, if so can i cut the pipe about 15" back and weld
a 2.5" washer with a 1 1/4 " hole in it, the weld the other half back on?
Also, this it the first time i have ever had this problem, 1-because i never use pipe this large, i only use 1-1.5" on my other racers.
2- Because all my pipes come out in front of the rear wheel, this one comes out behind the front left wheel.
This exhaust was an experiment,  and sounds good idelling.

Kohler Engines / Another 15 HP
« on: May 26, 2007, 12:08:17 pm »
On my 15 HP OHV Command, is there any small things i can do to increase power,
more so torque wise. For right know i am waiting for a new tranny and go kart axel
so i thought in the mean-time i would work on the engine a little. :)
The rest of the mower is done, i will post pics when i get a new camera.

Driveline / Tranny Questions
« on: May 19, 2007, 02:32:49 pm »
As you guys all know hydrostatics pretty much all suck and my crapsman
has a hydrostatic, before i pull it off to clean and sell it, will a transaxle
bolt up to the hydro bolt pattern? also, is the tranny input shaft the same height
or will i have to make this pretty custom, the tranny i have in mind is a peerless
3spd. Thanks for any suggestions. The front steering is on its way, and the rear axle cant go in untill i get the tranny.

Kohler Engines / odd sound
« on: May 13, 2007, 09:29:41 pm »
when i have the clutch in , or neutral, or downhill.
Well.... pretty much when the engine is not under much of a load
the RPM's pulse at about 3/4s throttle, the throttle lever on the
carb is moving so it is something to do with the governer, but should i put
a spring seperate from the gov. to keep more tension.
The engine is a Kohler Command 15 OHV, same as in the thread below this one.

Driveline / IDEA
« on: May 13, 2007, 04:56:43 pm »
i got a new peerless and i was wondering if a splined sprocket can be mounted on the shaft
the the disc rotor was on you would have a pretty high gear ratio and you would have to run a hotizontal shaft, right.

Kohler Engines / WHAT YEAR???
« on: April 11, 2007, 11:26:46 pm »
Is there a way to find out what year my mower is, by looking at the model, type, and code.
Or does anyone know about what year my mowers ares? They are a Craftsmans with a Kohler magnum 18
apposed twin. By the way the mower is grey and has an electronic push/pull knob to engadge
the mower blades. The mowers were only 10 bucks :woo: and i couldnt pass up that offer, but unfortunatlythey both have hydrostatic, should i invest in two trannys or only use the motors and frame for parts?Sorry i forgot to mention there is two, almost identical. :omg:

Briggs Flathead / Cam shaft idea?
« on: April 05, 2007, 12:41:03 pm »
If anyone has seen one of those nylon camshaft gears, well
i noticed that they were spoked, could i put my steel camshaft on the waterjet
machine at my dads shop and cut out spokes, to shave off unnecesary
weight?
Any suggestions?

Driveline / Whats your opinion?
« on: April 03, 2007, 02:20:31 pm »
What is your guys' opinion on pulleys, do you prefer
cast or machined, i know there is a difference in weight
but how about strength? I know some people like different
types, what do you think is the best?

Tecumseh Engines / Will not start!
« on: April 01, 2007, 03:02:46 pm »
On my MTD with a Tecumseh Enduro 13, I can't get it to turn over, for some reason it ran fine last
fall, probably october, and has sat in my shop since then.
I used the trickle-charger and charged the battery for probably 4-5 hours
then hooked it up and it wont start, i AM sitting on the seat, and i AM pressing the clutch
, The mower deck is in the stopped position. There is fresh gas in it, and the starter will not turn over.
Any suggestions, also is there a low oil shutdown, and if so will it disconnect the starter?
Thanks guys,
Andrew

Kohler Engines / Didn't Start?
« on: March 31, 2007, 06:06:42 pm »
I bought a new battrery 2 or so years ago, and never had to charge it and
I use it almost every day, so this morning i went out to tow some more
engines back to my shop, and it wouldnt start  .
The starter would engage but whined when it didnt turn it over, this is a
craftsman command 20, i jumped it and now it runs and starts up fine.
Does anyone know what the problem was, i leave the keys on it, perhaps
i left it in the on position?

Tecumseh Engines / SMOKER??
« on: March 18, 2007, 11:48:13 pm »
My dads friend gave me a MTD with a 13 hp enduro tecumseh in it.
You are probably wondering why he gave it to me, well when he changed the blades
he took his backhoe and straped it to one side of the mower deck, and flipped it  :omg:and let it
sit for a month or so when he got a new mower (money is no option for him).
Obviously when he tried to start it it was flooded with oil in the cylinder.
I pulled the head and cleaned it out and removed the muffler and put on a
new one from an old mower, the problem is it is still smokey and pours out thick smoke when
its not ideling. Could something else be wrong, any suggestions.

Kohler Engines / Fuse box?
« on: March 18, 2007, 04:02:21 pm »
I was looking at my Crapsman with the Kohler Command Pro 15, and
there is a fuse box on the other side of the dash/firewall. Its at my shop right
now but i think there are 3 or 4 fuses, one for starter, one for battery, one for alternator
and one that i cant see where it goes. However my other craftsman does not have any.
Is this standard, or "Custom"
