Breck the motor down to the bare block. Port out the intake and exoust, you want to make the intake a dull finish and the exoust a shiny finish. Get a 11hp head and true it up, don't shave it down. Get a new set of rings and new valve springs and a new rod. Lapp in the valves real good and put it all back together.   You will now have a cheap engine with beter than stock power for under $55.

I do not need to know the lift to cut the head, I need to know so I can do what I do to the valves.

Use a 1/2" wrench and just use a light tap.

Just out of curiosity where do you come up with things like this.
That is great knowledge passed down from one of the country's best kart engine builders. He has taken me under his wing and is teaching me everything he knows. Everything.
i try not to make a habit of beating on the rods with wrenches! that dent might cause a stress riser!!  :D :D
I said tap, not beat the snot out of it   :D

Here is a tip for ya that could save you a engine. Get together some NEW OHV rods. Hang one of them on a piece of thread and tap it with a wrench. If it make a "ping" sound, it is a keeper. If it makes a "clunk" sound trash it. The rod that makes a "ping" sound is stronger and will last longer.  8)

A fire slot will hurt power.
