Racing Mower Builds / Re: Geos W.O.O Modified Build

Well ... I re-did the secondary drive line with #35 chain to see if I could get away from it heating up. I believe it was heating because of the small sprocket (12T) it had to rotate around on the transaxle. Its going to mess up my gearing a bit and I can no longer shift into first due to location change of teh sprockets ( I had a custom made hub for the 40 chain with bolt on sprockets) but its now also lower on the input shaft, which should reduce bearing friction. I did a quick test and the chain got warm but not hot, so i guess it will be put to its real test this weekend.

lol yea sorry. There was a picture in there where i had it tacked on the wrong side LOL. the current picture on the forum should be correct.

I have noticed a new problem, my chain is getting very hot and burning off the oil and seizing. I switched out the idler to a sprocket style and Im still having this issue. Is this due to it being ran on its side ? I went through an entire box of chain last night trouble shooting this with different idlers, tried the chain loose, everything and it is still heating up. Everything on the driveline rotates smoothly and the sproket alignment is good as well. I did completly rebuild the transaxle with bearings in the input, new seals and an over flow can to vent it and allow the oil to drain back into the transaxle. The good news is the transaxle did not get hot as it did before, but I can foresee some chain issues at todays race that hopefuly do not turn into to much stress on the input causing another tansaxle failure LOL.

its on slack side. if the jack is roatating clockwise ( same as crank ) the tension will be pulledin to the sprocket, not exiting it.

Well. I got the bearings as suggest, and installed. Does anyone have the part number or an aftermarket seal that works for the input shaft ?? I runined my removing it as well as trying to salvage one from 2 other transaxles.

Here are some pics of the mowchine all finished at its first race. Had an ok day. My gearing is way off and had some transaxle issue, its getting so hot that the gear lube of boiling out of the transaxle and I wore out the bushing for the input shaft. real good. I thought I nailed my gearing switching from a 4.0 and trying a 4.5 finalk ratios. It may have been that face I was binding the chain with the off center inputshaft, im going to make a bearing plate to keep it centered. Also its got so hot it heated up my seat to the point I could not sit or even touch it LOL.

This is my Western Ontario Outlaw Modified class build. Have raced Outlaw the past years since we formed it but a growing family forced me to move down a few classes to some cheaper racing.
It started as a Davison Comando. Its Powered by a FC540V Kawi mated to a Peerless 600 transaxle on 13s all around. This build was 10x harder than any outlaw or other tractor I have built, getting a short verticle jackshaft and a manual clutch in a small place can be tedious LOL. Its still not completely finished. I need a gel cell or battery that can lay in its side to fint i nthe location i have for it, as well as the front grill finished and painted as well as decals and numbers.

Im sure some dislike resurecting old posts but does anyone know if all the 600 series transaxles are the same gear ratios ?? Im going to start collecting a few of these and want to get ones with the same ratios.
Thanks

yeah this was on a wheel horse with a hydo transaxle. If I had pickup I would have take the whole thing ( I liked the body style and pan chassis) but it would not fit in the trunk of my neon.

I got FC540V - AS08
The serial number is on a sticker that is too weathered to read. The hood on the tractor said 14hp that it came from and its the orginal engine. Could they have goved it to produce 14hp or something along that line ? Just need to know because of the restrictions for different HP rating in the class Im building for. It also has a cup on the top but no recoil, so Im guessing it once had a recoil start as well. I know briggs stickers their 500cc single from 13.5hp to 18hp on hte exact engine, for reasons I do not know. Could this be the same here ???

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Vanguard Single barrel carb on alcohol HELP

It will be methanol, but its conditioned and alot easier on everything. I used to condition my outlaw fuel 50% over the directed ammount and it never did any harm to anything.
now if its as easy as opening a jet, are they flowed at a certian ammount or if I go %20 larger hole it will flow 20% more ??
