I took your advice and got a different motor.  I got a 12 HP Briggs.  Came with a free mower too, so pretty good deal.

I'm really sorry for being non compatible with a computer but i've searched and searched and can not find a thread that shows how to install the breaks.  if you know of a thread that has pictures and detailed information on how to please help.  Sorry again for asking the same questions that's been asked so many times on here.

not real sure on the class.  i don't have any races currently in my area and was thinking about dragging it. Do you know how to possibly set up a cone fiter on this carb.  I'm not sure where to strap the tubing for it since the stock screw holes are directly down on it.  i was going to run the intake forward since i'll have plently of room in the agway to do so.  I planned on putting a 90 tube on top the carb and just run it straight out.  I hope to start tearing apart the mowers this weekend.  Still wondering on how i'll set the brakes up on the trans, but i'll probably definately use the dana.

Driveline / Dana model # 4150-54
« on: March 19, 2010, 12:28:25 pm »
I have a Dana out of a craftsman.  I plan on using a transaxle and not a live axle.  I was wondering if anyone uses this transaxle and if it's a decent one.  It's a 5 speed. I plan on swapping the motor (14hp twin) and transaxle into my Agway since it's a ton lighter than the craftsman.  I'm not sure what kind of transaxle the agway currently has, it looks very small compared to the dana but it's a 7 speed.  Looking for feedback.
thank you,

How do you insert a picture.  i've finally got some. I was also able to find information about this mower.  It's a model 917.254312, it does have a briggs model 400707, type 1507-01.  The transaxle is Dana model 4150-54. I was also able to print diagrams of the motor, trans, and carb.  I'm determined to use a transaxle but was wondering if this one is any good.  I've never heard of Dana.  It's a 5 speed.  Once i can figure out how to put up pics i'll post them.

i have called some small engine repair shops and they are telling me that since it doesnt say briggs or tecumseh on the egine it may be a chinese motor.  does that sound correct to you guys?

Briggs Flathead / 14 opposed carb issues
« on: March 18, 2010, 10:33:11 am »
I have a 14 hp opposed, assuming it's briggs although it says nothing but sears and craftsman on the engine.  Anyway, i've removed the carb and cleaned it out.  This is an older model.  Can't even find a model number on the engine.  I know the carb has butterflies on top where the filter sets and another butterfly at the bottom of the carb from their it splits to each cylinder.  I'm not sure how i can hook my throttle cable directly to the carb.  Well i can do it but don't know where to put a return spring.  Or maybe this is a bad idea all together.  But one of the clips that holds the metal connecting rods to the levers has broken off and i can not find any parts anywhere by googleing.  There is a series of levers and such directly behind the carb on the block.  The carb doesn't actually attach to the block itself.  I need help real bad.  I'm clueless.  Does anyone have this similar engine, from what you can tell anyways by my explanation. When i move my throttle up and down it doesn't move the throttle on the carb.  Something in the levers behind the carb isn't working right.  My choke works fine, but it's attached directly to the top butterfly.  The assembly i'm confused on that sits directly behind the carb attached to the block is a series of springs and levers.  Seems kind of pointless to even have all this back there if i can just find a way to attach throttle cable directly to the throttle on the carb.  Sorry for being so dumb with these questions but after hours of searching the web don't know where else to turn.

Drag Mowers / Re: Chassis for Drag Racing
« on: March 08, 2010, 10:16:17 am »
I haven't been able to locate anyone in my area at the moment that races.  I guess before changing the chassis I should find one first then read over their rules. I'll check the build section for the Kill switch.
thanks,

Drag Mowers / Chassis for Drag Racing
« on: March 08, 2010, 09:30:29 am »
Do you guys stretch your chassis any for drag racing?  I seen some use wheelie bars and some don't. i didn't know if there was enough torque where the chassis should be stretched.  i do plan on re-enforcing it. Also can someone inform me the best method for installing a kill switch.  Sorry for lame questions but i want to keep this thing as safe as possilbe just starting out.
