Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: welding on a block
« on: April 23, 2012, 01:09:37 pm »
I know there's a few ways to vent it , I was just worried about welding on the block if I went that way...
I just recently got a spool gun and haven't welded on a block before ......

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / welding on a block
« on: April 19, 2012, 10:14:27 pm »
I have a 16 hp vanny horiz...I want to remove the stock pvc breather assembly and weld a plate in it's place with a pipe fitting ( for venting the crank case)
I also wanted do put vents tubes in the valve covers ,not sure  about that one yet.  I also heard someone say somthing about venting the block to the exhuast pipes as a way to help venting at higher rpm's....

Anyway my concern is that I would be welding realy close to the lifter bores.

Well after going to a #220 jet on a motor that is 30ci , no cam , rev kit , billit fly wheel , two into one headers , it is running real good .

Iam amazed at the differance the carb made on start up , idle , and over all . I just wish stock two barrel carbs were that good for the money.

Iam trying out a miknui carb , a tm2855 (2 stk 80 suzzki)28mm . it has a main jet ot 180 , my motor is a 30ci vanguard w/ a rev kit and a billit flywheel . it cuts out from 1/3rd full throtle . the honda dealer told me that a 180 jet is realy small even for what the carb was meant for .

So my question is for anyone who is running this type carb what is a good jet size to start with? I have jets from 110-280 so i should be ok ....
also I was givin some other jet lookin things just a little longer with a few holes in them , I have no idea what they are for yet but i have 20-62 in sizes.

thanks

$3,000. is a good deal and if I had it I would get it.
Im trying to build one myself slowly gathering parts over time.

Parts might be harder to get or more $$ but if it holds up a bit longer due to the bearings it might be a wash.
  It was just Idea...

I had a 700 case awhile back that had roller bearings on the output shaft. I haven't seen one since and it was missing the id tag so I have no info to go off of.
It seems like that case would work out well, any ideas ?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: governor removal
« on: August 02, 2011, 04:04:27 am »
Yes when a govener is removed from a STOCK motor the higher rpm's will cause valve float and can/will lead to droped valves, I should have taken the time to explain that to you at the race that day and let you make that call.
I did advise to remove the govener after we had a short talk about your mower being slower compared to others and that you would have if you new you could or new how(at that time), I didn't give it much thought becuase there is others in our group that have stock motors with no govener that have run for awhile with no issues.

I should have then and will from now on be carefull on how I help/advise someone new to the sport.

(AND HERE IT COMES)...I posted this becuase of the above and becuase you stated (THAT I  PROMPTLEY TOLD YOU HAD TO REMOVE IT BEFORE THE RACE)
1.The promptley was (from my guess) that we had about 15/20 minutes before the race and had next no way how we were going to get it done.
2.I NEVER SAID (HAD/SHOULD OR ANYTHING LIKE).
I will say that you raced vary well for your first race (clean & safe on the track) and your 1st place score is well earned....

Ineed some more info,
1.when you say you can't get fire do you mean you have no spark at the plugs??
2.the thang under your bowl isn't a back fire anything from what I know .
3.is this a race mower motor ? or what are you doing?.............................
4.i've read some of your other posts, are you building a race mower to compete ????or just somthing to play with??

I see your in in nor-cal , where abouts? I am in sacramento,ca. and we have some real mower racing starting to come about.
I will help all I can but I don't think flames out the tail pipe is safe or needed for racing...
