Title: Cent Clutch for Kohler 1 1/8" crank
Post by: BoNewCo on April 13, 2015, 05:52:40 pm
What are those running a 1 1/8" shaft vertical Kohler using for a centrifugal clutch. Bully isn't making them anymore & I really don't like the idea of it being under the mower in the dirt.

If I recall, Zach Kerber makes one.

Yes they look really nice but unfortunately they are almost as much as the owner paid for the mower. He's not a serious racer. Just built it with a Kohler because that is what the mower he had had in it.

if he is on that tight of budget run a belt clutch.   Especially if he is running a vertical shaft engine in the FXT class.

Or run a belt to his RAGB and use a 1" or a 3/4" bore clutch on the box.

He gave less than $700 for a FXT style mower???!!!!    I gotta see this thing!!!!!   I have $400 in tires on mine (not counting the 4 spares).

It's not a competitive FX. He already had the mower & paid a friend of mine to convert it to a "racer" for his kids. Stock engine & turf tires. It has a belt clutch but keeps burning up belts.

Have the PTO side of your crank turned down, and a key way machined in it, local shops wouldn't charge much for it.

And your crank will snap.   Unless your running a stock engine.

^ Add an engine plate and 3rd bearing support to the PTO shaft

Turn down a stock crank and it will snap.

No need for a billet crank.

If he is burning up belts on a stock engine then there must be other issues.  It may not have enough tension, cheap belt or poor alignment.  It has been a long time since I burned up a belt and I can abuse it a lot.

Who's mower is it Bob?
