Non-Affiliated Races / Re: SAVE THE DATE-Cancer Research OPEN Race October 25th & 26th
« on: October 29, 2014, 08:03:43 pm »
Wow! That is all we can say- WOW! What a weekend! It was great to see so many racing friends from years past show up to drive or just stop by and say “Hi! We’re here to support you!”. It was heartening to watch racers show that it isn’t always about being number one, or the fastest or the best…sometimes it is more important to support those who are in a fight bigger than that. Hopefully many became aware that there are those in our racing family who have faced down the cancer demon before, and there are some who have lost those dear to them from this disease. We cannot thank everyone enough for donating their time, resources, spirit, and hugs this weekend. It is our hope that this positive energy reaches all of those facing the challenges this disease creates. I would like to take the time to specifically thank some other people and groups who were influential in making this event such a success. We are very proud to say that thanks to this inaugural effort we will make a donation close to $2500!!! Anyone sending a donation for an auction item can write the check directly to Chesapeake Cancer Alliance and mail it to the ARMA address. PLEASE let me know who I have forgotten! I want to acknowledge everyone involved.
Our additional thanks are extended to the following:
• Citizen’s Volunteer Fire Department- At the end of the weekend they made a decision among the board that they were turning over all of the money collected at the gate and not charging us for the use of their facility. This is quite a generous donation from a group that relies heavily on these funds for their use.
• Jimmy Hutchins- The friendly face that you probably saw at the gate belonged to this man-the head honcho from Backyard Boyz. He pulled an 18 hour day on Saturday!
• Dave and the CVFD Dirt Crew- They worked tirelessly all weekend to provide whatever was needed to make the track its best. They have already begun thinking about ways to improve it even further for its next event.
• Fawn View Manor Farms and the Archer family- All of those pretty straw bales were donated by this family.
• CVFD Concession crew- For providing yummy food by the track and keeping everyone full of “Firehouse dogs”
• Bev Crowl/Teresa Pomraning/Myron Pomraning- The “family crew” cooked and served food from the concession stand on the hill.
• Andrew Dalmas and family-They cooked and fed all of the racers and their families on Saturday night. And, as if that wasn’t enough- they donated all of the proceeds from their sales of chicken to the public!
• Tri-State Trophies- Our friends at the trophy shop donated all of the medallions for our weekend of fun.
• !st North Carolina Battery C- Darren, John and crew set up an awesome display for the public and donated what was needed for those who wished to fire the cannon.
• Legends of the Fog- Kyle, Jeff and Dawn donated their time to get costumed up and interact with our “big and little kids” during the trunk or treat.
• Tim Alexander- Head flagging and keeping me straight was appreciated more than you know!
• Todd & Casey Lagler, Lou Filos and Rodney Mackey- We appreciate you taking the time to corner flag and keep us all safe!
• Tinker Moats/Tyler Kline- You were great on golf cart duty!
• Darren Houck- Your help being my “legs” and running back and forth for whatever I needed (sometimes before I knew I needed it!) was a lifesaver!
• Jennifer Lagler, Diane Williams, Tim Alexander, Phil Lytle- Wonderful contributions to the silent and live auctions. We appreciate the donations.
• Mason-Dixon Lawn Mower Racing Association- We appreciate you moving and coordinating your finals race so you could come out and be with us for this event. We look forward to seeing you more in the future.
• Disorder at the Border/Billy & Melissa Woods-Thanks to all the drivers and their families for supporting the event and giving us great entertainment on Saturday evening!
Can’t wait until next year!!
