Briggs Flathead / OPPY TIMING QUESTION
« on: August 26, 2015, 11:14:39 pm »
Quick question.....I have a 46ci oppy with billet rods, billet flywheel, precision 212 cam, EC double valve springs, ported to the hilt. Stock appearing carb lol. I have heard and read mixed opinions in the past about where to set the timing along with air gap. Where Im set now is  air gap 15, timing is 5 marks advanced on flywheel. I run a 1/10th mile track and Im around 4000rpm. Very aggressive off the corner but flattens out at end of the straight. Like I mentioned, Im not breaking 4000. Any tips on what timing and air gap with this cam? Thanks in advance!

Briggs Flathead / DIGATRON DT32 K1
« on: April 17, 2015, 08:00:15 pm »
I have an old Digatron I used on my nephews race kart. I mounted it on my race mower and Im having trouble calibrating it. The motor is a 46 opposed twin with a precision cam. Everytime I set the calibration (be it .5, 1, or 2) it reads around 2.40. Looking at the front of the motor, the wire is attatched to the left plug wire. I even have about 3" of the green wire taped to the plug wire, and it starts about 2" from the boot. Am I missing something with setting it? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!

Just got my hands on a Kohler 20hp opposed. I haven't opened it up yet but has a side draft carb, aluminum intake, pressure lube. Just wondering if anyone has ever raced any of these motors and is it worth looking into or are they junk? Thanks guys!

Briggs Flathead / OPPOSED TWIN BILLET RODS
« on: February 27, 2015, 04:13:30 pm »
Ok all 3 of you oppy lovers  I have a question. I have a 46ci oppy. I went ahead and had a cam ground for it and ordered a set of ARC Billet rods. Heres the dilemma. I wont mention the name of the guy who ground the cam, though he is well known. He sent me a set of 42ci billet rods (#6302). When I called to tell him they were wrong, he said the 42 and 46 are the same size. I know their not, Ive been running oppys for a few years now. Anyway I looked them up and saw 42's are 4.96 and the 46 are 4.87. Didnt think it was a big difference. Well my piston is sitting 1/2 inch above the deck. Put a call in to the "engine guy" and havent heard back. Is there a certain piston I have to run with these? Does the model 28 piston have a different wristpin height than a stock piston? Im a little on the frustrated side right now so I do apologize. Im very disappointed in this guy. After spending a decent chunk of change, I would hope to get the right combination.....not just sell me parts. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks all!

Driveline / 700 trans gearing
« on: February 20, 2015, 11:50:34 pm »
Quick question. I run a 46 oppy (precision cam, billet rods, double valve springs, billet flywheel). I'm switching from the 820 to a 700. 700 has been modded for gear oil (input shaft seal, vented) and reverse removed. Now....I have a 1 1\4" axle, I run on a 1\10mile oval. 8" engine pulley, 5" trans pulley. I want to keep rpms around 4-4500. What sprocket, gear combo would any of you recommend? I read a 12-46 was a ballpark start....but some vtwins I run with are at 9-53. But their getting the rpms....I'm looking to get out of the hole and pull down the straight (aren't we all?  ). Any help is very much appreciated  :) :)
 Thanks in advance!

Briggs Flathead / OPPY VALVE SPRINGS
« on: July 06, 2014, 09:07:09 pm »
Can anyone tell me which EC valve spring and retainer part numbers are for an opposed? Also does the "set" come as a set of 2 or 4 for the springs, a full or partial set for keepers and retainers? Thanks in advance!

Briggs Flathead / 40ci cam
« on: June 02, 2014, 11:19:34 pm »
Ok guys....quick question. I have  a 16hp oppy model #402707. I have a stock cam and heads from a 20hp oppy model#461707. Would I gain anything worthwhile by putting the 46ci cam in the 40ci motor? I just sent my carb out to EC so I have a little time to play around but not really enough time for trial and error  . There is a ton of experience on this forum and I have learned so much reading past posts. This forum has helped me go from running in the back to being a top 3 machine. Any help is more than appreciated!

Briggs Flathead / Oppy Fuel Problem
« on: April 21, 2014, 10:30:09 pm »
Ok guys I need your help. New build, 16hp oppy, I have the motor set with the carb sticking out of the left side of the hood. I have 2 carbs Im playing with - 1 older with 3 bolt fuel pump and 1 with 4 bolt fuel pump. The 3 bolt is bigger but for some reason it will not pull the fuel.  Both carbs and pumps are fresh rebuilds. The 4 bolt pulls the fuel but I run out coming off the corner (this being because of the direction of carb....float raising the needle etc). Now....I ran 5/16 fuel line from tank to carb with inline filter. Tank is mounted under seat BUT is lower than the carb. Should I go back to 1/4 fuel line? Is it too much for the 3 bolt to pull? My vacuum hose to carb is pulling from the #2 boss on the intake (NOT the block) that I drilled and tapped. I recently read a post about a reserve tube off the side of the carb which I will try....but my concern is I know these things like to be on the rich side....NOT the lean side so Id rather run the 3 bolt. Any ideas? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Briggs Flathead / 20hp OPPY WIRING
« on: March 13, 2014, 05:29:40 pm »
Ok guys I have a question. I just got my hands on a 20hp Briggs oppy model:461707 0143E1. I have no idea if I have everything I need to wire this.   :bash: Im searching high and low for a wiring schematic for this thing. My last motor was a briggs 17hp intek so the twin is pretty different. Im looking for a schematic that can show me what I need to run it on my race mower. Minimal as possible of course! ANY help is appreciated. Thanks guys!
