Coffee Shop / Looking for contact in the Racine Wi area
« on: March 08, 2014, 01:26:31 pm »
I'm looking for some one in the Racine Wi area that would be willing to do a favor for another lawn mower racer.
I'm looking to buy a truck that is for sale at a local dealer and would like some one to do a drive by and scope it out and test drive it. I have spoke with the dealer and he has sent me extra pictures and it looks good. But before I make the 8 hr round trip drive I would like some one with an unbiased opinion look at it
If someone could do this please PM me and I will give you the details
It would need to be done this week as I plan on making the trip Saturday the 15th
Thanks Joe

I know we have a lot of talented heymowers out there in all walks of life and any info I can obtain would be very helpful.
This is the project that I need assistance with. I have 3 parts that I need to have stamped out.
I have contacted the company that currantly makes the part for a manufacture but they will not sell me the parts with out approvel from the manufacturer of the finnished product. I understand why is because thay don't own the tooling used to make the parts. The approvel from the manfacture is out of the question because I will be in direct comptition with them.
I would like to get these 3 parts drawn up in solid works or something like that. These are very easy parts
and small in size nothing bigger than 6" dia and all flat parts.
If anyone can lend a hand I will give you all details through e mail with pictures and anything you need.
Idealy if you own or work in a small job shop with the abality to stamp out parts and make the die to do so this could be the begining of a long term parts run.
Thanks Joe

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / External oil pump ?
« on: March 21, 2012, 09:22:27 am »
I been searching and have seen some mention of using a external oil pump. But I have not seen what oil pump is being used. I'm working on a new engine and been thinking outside the box a little. I wanted to know what oil pump your using if you are using a external one. I have been looking online but have mostly only found ones for big engines nothing for a single cylinder. Also does anyone know what oil psi or gpm would be good for a single ohv intek? I'm thinking 20psi 2 gpm should be enough but that is just a guess.

Yes I know it's a spicer but it is a Jp also I used the mounts I just cut them off the bottom and mounted them to the outside of the frame

Sorry about the picture sizes this is my 1st time posting pic's

More to come need to clean the shop and then get back to work on it

Kohler Engines / Ch 25 bent push rod problem
« on: November 07, 2010, 09:04:46 am »
I have a Ch 25 on a Exmark mower that started running on one cylinder I thought it may be the coil so I checked it out it was good. I removed the valve cover and found a bent push rod on the intake valve.
I removed the push rod and checked the valve movement it was free I removed the lifter and checked it also seems good. I replaced the bent rod with another one I had and reassembled the valve train.
I started the motor with out the valve cover on and it started running on both cylinders. When I started to rev it up a little the intake bent another rod. Now I'm back to the beginning and have no idea why it bent in the first place. If any one has any ideas please let me know

Tecumseh Engines / Good engine for ungoverned stock class?
« on: September 29, 2009, 07:53:35 am »
I have a new Tec OV490EA-208042 and I was wondering how it would hold up for a ungoverned stock class. This is how the rules read ( Engine must be originally manufactured for use in lawn mowing equipment single cylinder up to 20 Hp, and be stock, with the exception of air filter, air cleaner or velocity stack. The governor can be removed. You may run a catch can from the crankcase. Crankshaft must be in original orientation and clearance hole in the frame. If anyone has run one of these please let me know Thanks Joe

Chassis / Snapper build
« on: August 26, 2009, 08:15:28 am »
I'm looking for some insight on building a Snapper LT125G38 one piece frame.  I have the option of using a kart axle and a trans which I think is the best way to go. I have a Peerless 400 that I would like to use unless some one talks me out of it. I will also be using a Ec front end. I'm just looking to see if anyone has built one of these and what type of problems they ran into. Or any pictures of one that has been done. I have not started on it yet I just want to line everything up so it will go as smooth as possible. Thanks Joe

Driveline / Peerless Transaxle 1" Axle Conversion ?
« on: June 19, 2009, 09:37:53 am »
I was wondering if any of you have seen or done a axle conversion to a peerless transaxle of removing the 3/4 " axle and boring it out to accept a 1 " axle. I know the 820 had the 1" and I have seen a transaxle that I was told  had this done to it. I just don't think there is enough meat in the cases to do this? Maybe if you run a outboard bearing as a carrier or something just a thought.
Thanks Joe

Briggs Flathead / 12 hp flatty cranks
« on: April 21, 2009, 08:08:18 am »
Hi all I'm new at this engine building stuff but have been working on engines all my life. My question is I'm building a 12 hp flat and the crank I got I was told was a non syncro 12 hp but after checking the stroke in the 12 hp block it has a shorter stroke and the piston don't come all the way to the top. Is it possible to used a different rod or piston to make this work or should I just use it in a 11hp block. Any help would be great I don't have a bunch of $$ to do this build but was hoping to make something work.
PS. The class I run in all parts have to be stock B&S. π
