Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: EC Roller Rocker Installation: 33 vs. 31
« on: August 16, 2018, 12:18:02 pm »
The problem is the tower is to high for the late model heads. EC will make [2] two towers for the different heads. For now just measure the tower and the rocker stud towers and machine the rocker arm tower off, mine needed .206 " milled off.

The rockers are flat across and hit the valve stem real close to the center.

The stupid slide show loads backwards, Duh

Ok because looking no at these pictures he didn’t factor his guide plate into his measurements for cutting the mount down.  Seems like after he adds the guide plate now the other 2 mounting bolts won’t be flush with the head

Do you still use the push rod guide plate with this new tower?  Also it looks like I have to drill and tap (2) extra holes in the head for the extra mounting holes correct?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Small journal 30ci Vanguard Twin crank #
« on: February 27, 2018, 03:24:15 pm »
Anyone know the part number for the small mag journal crank for a vertical 30 cube Vanny twin?  I ordered a new crank with the model info I had but ended up with the large journal.

Thanks, Tom

Who balanced it?

BAK Engineering in Zanesville, OH.  Sent him the crank with the rotating assembly and balanced it

It is a balanced stock 33 crank, not a ARC billet crank

Well, it's ALIVE lol.  We unbolted the flywheel from the hub and advanced it one bolt hole to see if it would start which it did but was still firing 14* ATDC.  Unbolted the flywheel from the hub and advanced it ANOTHER bolt hole and it was firing 49* BTDC.  So whe did some marking and degreeing and popped the flywheel off and removed the key and retarded it 19*.  Retorqued the flywheel and fired it up and sitting at 30* BTDC and running like a champ

Just to eliminate it I did just check valve timing and it is correct.  So looks like the problem is in flywheel timing like we all suspected lol

Your problem sounds identical to what we found when we replaced a blown B&S 31 with a newer model 33 short block. Drove us crazy until factory technician told us after 2012 the crank and flywheel slot was changed to 11 o'clock.  From your pictures your GP has the older style crank and flywheel where your short block has the newer crank.  Just guessing that could be your problem.

That sounds like the problem

I'm thinking the flywheel is the issue.

Any chance the cam is 180 out?

I think it's the flywheel also.  The cam and everything is installed how I was told to install it.  I think I'm gonna move the wheel a set of bolt holes and try it there
