mine has a little manifold thing and i was wondering if i could weld a peice of pipe to it do yall think it would hurt it?

As long as you dont warp the heck out of it. After done welding, run a flat file across it until you get it smoothed back out.
When bolting it on, you dont need a cheater bar, just get them a little past snug.

I know a guy who uses a caulking gun and clear silicon on his street stock exhaust. "I gotta take the dang things off after every race, this stuff cleans up easier and I can get 6 tubes for one little squeeze tube of RTV!"

I think I'll stick with the RTV.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Carb problem
« on: May 12, 2008, 07:32:21 pm »
I replaced the electric shutoff with a nut from another carb, so I guess I'lll try cleaning it some more. The only problem is that the brass shaft that goes through the whole center is stuck in there really tight, and I pretty much stripped it trying to get it out before.

Just for educational purposes...
I believe the "brass shaft" you are talking about would be the throttle shaft. If you got it messed up then carb is prolly leaking air around it causing a lean condition, which is why you are needing to choke it to get mixture right. Avoid destroying these parts in the future, might save some dough ;)

Actually, my "team partner" found them.
Called me, said "You know (name with held for privacy), he's said he had a couple of mowers and an engine. Want to go look"
On the trailer Is the walk through MTD, the blue one is a '96 Murray which is sitting on a '72 wheel horse complete chassis(all the tins are in back of truck and flawless), behind them is an old Craftsman with a cast Iron grill , that thing  weighs a ton.  there is a newer walk-thru Murray, a lawn chief, another mtd, a Large Craftsman chassis and 4 or 5 transaxles.
In bed of truck, sheet metal. Complete running 11hp briggs, 14hp OHV Briggs & an unknown opposed twin, plus a basket case opposed twin oh and a Horizontal shaft  ??hp on the old craftsman (Looks to be in the 10-12 range).

Any one counting? Thats 8 mowchines and 4+1 basket case engines.

But thats not all, gotta go back for second load!

Total price,$120. With scrap at $140 a ton right know, we'll get half that back out of all the junk we don't use!
BTW did I do the pic right? Usually they show up as a thumb, but this one doesn't?
Is it because its mine or did I do it wrong?

Racing Mower Builds / Re: simulated mower deck installation
« on: May 11, 2008, 01:35:46 pm »
I hope you guys can handle some constructive criticism.....I have found several "mis statements"

1: Rename this thread..I've skipped it numerous times ...how bout "One awesome mowchine from the north"...I love how you Canucs do mower racin'

2: George..you can fit i the seat. Sit ON seat, mash the gas, your in ;)..as for gettin' out????

3: Racing math: HP + set-up + grandisimo juevos = checkers

4: Too pretty to get dirty?????? I guess I'm just a racer at heart...but somebody got to explain this to me....I just dont understand this statement at all??? Thats like a girl to pretty, a mower to fast.....

And , when is ARMA going to start this class????

I WANT ONE!!!!

"It's" in the works....Is it just a crank, rotating assembly or balanced assembly?
You offer a balanced assembly under 5 bills and I am there super dude.

Not asking for specifics, I did read that ;) Just puttin in my vote.

« on: May 03, 2008, 10:22:06 pm »
Nick,
There is a group that races unsanctioned in commerce, OK. Quite a ways from you, also some around KC area. I have been looking for racers in SE Ks for several years. Finally found them in NE Ok. Just a small group, but a start. I am sure they would like to have some of you guys come down. They race 3rd saturday of month, starts at 3, some time in june they move the races to 6.

Driveline / Re: Jackshaft Pictures.....
« on: May 03, 2008, 08:00:17 pm »
Here Is a pic, not a very  good one though.
I made it from a Murray deck spindle, shaft & pulleys.
The pulley end and blade adapter end of the shaft are the same. Put a deck pulley on each end of the shaft and measure the length between grooves, On mine was around 6", so I moved transaxle up in chassis same distance. line up lower pulley with motor pulley and you should line up pretty good with transaxle. Free, easy jack shaft.
