Post Your Video / Youtube Playlist "Dump Post"
« on: March 15, 2020, 09:02:23 pm »
I know activity on here isn't as much as it was a few years ago, but I'm sure there are a few here that don't partake in "the facebooks" and "the twitters". As I am on here infrequently myself, I will be dumping several links in this post to playlists of Youtube videos I have uploaded. I had pretty much forgotten about a couple years, and a friend noticed I was missing them, so I got them uploaded this weekend. So without further ado, here they are by year:

2015 Summer Shootout Carlisle Iowa:
First US Sanctioned Race I ever attended. Shared before, but with a new post, figured worth sharing again.

This was a first time event. I was told that part of the promotion staff had attended the Battle at the Barn in Des Moines, and a couple people I know had been in talks with the promoters about adding mowers to their lineup. We had two classes, governed and ungoverned. I ran my GP in the Governed Class and place Third. The response of the mowers was pretty good, so they are looking to run them again in the future, and it sounds like they will plan to use the US rulebook and do some tech'ing too.

Post Your Video / Carlisle Summer Shootout Videos

So, after MUCH procrastination, I finally have playlists up of the Labor Day races at River Bottom Raceway in Carlisle. I have Saturday night from 2015 and Saturday and Sunday from 2016.
I'm sure my (video recording) skills can use some improvement.

2015

I was a little disappointed in the lower turnout for this year, but I won't hold it against anyone. Sounded like there were other things scheduled for the same weekend, so I guess some people had to decide one over the other. Fellow member boxcar went with me and he had a good time!
Definitely planning for next year again!

Driveline / larger pulley sizes, trans alignment questions
« on: February 17, 2015, 01:13:44 pm »
I've done some research on here for a while (been a lurker for probably a couple of years before I finally joined) and it sounds like a good basis for pulleys on a prepared class with a 700 is with  6" to 4" or 8" to 5". I was pondering why not go larger diameter, yet maintain the overdrive ratio? Like 9" to 5" or 6", or 10" to 6"? The one reason I thought of this would be more area for the belt to grip, but I take it that with the sizes already ran, that going larger might cause clearance issues under the frame, and if I had belt slippage, that's going to be more of a tension issue?

The second thing I was pondering was side-to-side location of the 700. If the motor and trans are straight back from each other(sans clutch and idler(s)) the belt basically sits in a teardrop shape, and in terms of degrees of rotation, the motor side would be over 180 and the trans would be under. I figure after accounting for the clutch, it will bring the belt in closer towards the trans pulley on that sside. So I was thinking would it help if the 700 was offset to the side of the chassis opposite the clutch, to try and increase the amount of belt contact on the pulley.  Once again, this might just be more of a tension issue.

I'm pretty sure I'm over thinking this, but they say the only dumb question is the one not asked.
If my second question is hard to visualize, I will try to get a picture up later today to help with what I am asking.

Newcomers / Newbie from Southeast South Dakota

Greetings to everyone from Yankton, SD.

My name is Zach Jensen. After having spent some time on here lurking, I figured it was high time i joined.
A little bit on my racing background, I used to race from 2005 to 2007 in my area with a few local guys that included the two Gustads, Brian and Mark.
Yeah, back then, we would been totally considered the backyard basher variety.
I was at first against trying to build something to what you guys build, looked expensive. But finances are easier for me to come by and my fabrication skills are better then they were 7 years ago.
Was planning on joining an ARMA group from Nebraska, but they recently disbanded. Looking into trying to get some people in my area together to do something. Figured we would get some US/ARMA spec machines built and come to one of the nearby groups, Iowa looks the closest.
