Title: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: nic_hayes on November 17, 2008, 09:26:23 pm
This is a two day race in Springfield, Mo, Febuary 6 & 7

The track and pit area are indoors

As of right now they have two classes, single and twin. The rules are on there website but are old, I have spoke to Jay about them and he will let anyone run as long as you are within arma or uslmra rules, anyone is welcome but try to be close to those rules. as of right now there are no hp limits in the two classes. If he has enough intrest(get ahold of him and let him know) he is interested in adding more classes if needed. If you have any other questions get ahold of Jay Hoska, info below, or me. There website is also below but they still have there info up from the race last weekend but it will be switching to the Springfield race very soon.

I just talked to Jay the other day about the entry fees for this race and the mowers will be FREE, you will still need to buy a pit pass.
They have updated their website with the Springfild info on it, www.indoorwinternationals.net
Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: lowgalaxie on December 21, 2008, 03:26:45 pm
$15 for pit pass and $10 for pit that fits two mowers all indoors. Would have been a $20 dollar race entry fee but since we don't race for money they wave the entry fee but all other racers for other class still have to pay.

What engines do your racers have.
Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: Mowerpar on December 23, 2008, 01:49:12 am
28ohv briggs on the fx and 8hp briggs on the ap

Post by: lowgalaxie on December 23, 2008, 10:53:15 am
I would say the FX could run with us in the faster class and the ap could run with the other class, but that is just my opinion. You would need to contact Jay and feel him in and what we have been talking about. Thanks

actually not to be a meany. but leagaly his fx mower and ap would not be legal. reason being in there rules for the single modified it does not say you can run go kart type spindle's , but on the other hand you can in the single stock... im hopeing in the single mod class they will let us run kart tires so my mower is legal. its just from what i have noticed... but im sure they will except almost any mower seing is they didnt have very many last year, nic i hope to see you there if i get my mower done for the single mod. class, by the way wat class are you running in up there?

If someone knows Jay, they need to get a him to confirm all question before we start to Springfield.  Is everyone legal in USLMRA or ARMA?  If so we need to ask him to approve using our rules so we can run.  There are some US members in Arkansas that would come if he would take the time to explain what is allowed, or just approve our rules. (USLMRA or ARMA)

Yup dunlop kart tires.
Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: monkeyward71 on January 02, 2009, 02:11:32 am
i have looked at those tires, i run old burris k-21's , im just wondering are the sidewalls on them really stiff? Because i had a set of dunlop slicks on my kart and they were very stiff walled. Thanks Brett
Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: Mowerpar on January 02, 2009, 06:58:14 am
Yup almost no bounce/flex on them which is what I'm after.  Those burris make the mower bounce a little to much for my liking in the corners.  I could strech them way out to make them a little stiffer but I'll  stick with the dunlops.
and there a little softer than the tx-11's too
Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: monkeyward71 on January 02, 2009, 11:04:00 pm
yea i have been really looking into dunlops for the simple fact that i have ran the tx-11's and liked them but the sidewalls were a bit to soft. were did you get yours and how much were they? thanks Brett
Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: Mowerpar on January 03, 2009, 02:47:45 am
From Aps Karting Supply.  The 11x7.1x6 $63 a piece rear and 11x5.5x6 $56 a piece.  They're softer than the tx-11's
correction 11x5x6 $50  11.5x7.1x6 $59

Put the rear tires on a 1" wider or so rim like it says to.  And have fun putting them on the rim too :P  Man those tires are stiff.

Man, I have the itch!
But don't want to drive 6 hrs this time of year.  The weather can change FAST!

I also haven't TOUCHED the mowers yet.
I'll have to keep this in mind for next year!

Paul

Ah, 6 hours is a short drive to have such a great time, and this race will happen race sleat or snow. The way your mowers look and from reading your post in the past I bet your racers are ready on there worst day. Oh and most of us will be driving 6 hour minimum. Think about it.

O.K.
Not worried about the racing weather, worried about the driving weather.  It does snow in IOWA from time to time!

Give me more info.
Insurance?
Clean racing, or a demo derby?
Racing for money or trophys?
Dirt or concrete?

After reading the rules I am WAY out of bounds with my SP and my FX.  If I come I will want to bring both and race both.  What is the schedule like?  It looks like they are going to run singles and twins.  I have 2 singles, see the problem.  How many classes are they "actually" going to run.

And yes, the mowers could be ready to go.  But I have mods to do to both this winter..............front brakes................rebuild engines................remove handlebars................well you get the picture.

If I do come, I'm sure to have 1 more FX with driver.  I'll try to con 2 more SP's to make the trip too!

If it ain't going to snow............I can't ride my sled!

Paul

well prepped dirt that will also be races on by outlaw winged karts
Insurance is provided by the series
Two days of racing
There will be a class for all to race it may not be what you are use to but who knows you may be the faster of the class.
We will be racing for nice trophies and bragging rights. Mowers are new to the series but seams to be growing quick and this year will be one to attend.

Come on down and bring all the racers you can. It would be cool if there were more mowers than any other class.
 Thanks

The mower class started this whole deal, first year saw 75+ mowers next two years the mower count went way down to around 10, sounds like this year is gonna be pretty good though. They have rules for three classes but it depends on how many show up. Stock appearing, outlaw single and outlaw twin. I've been running stock appearing last few times.
Oh yea, about a 7.5 hour drive for me ;)
Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: lowgalaxie on January 06, 2009, 08:55:53 pm
You'll be running the outlaw single this year right Nic. Or do I get to run the stock appearing also since I still have a shiftable tranny. Sounds like there will be a few fx's there and I will probably run whatever I can. Can't wait.
Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: cycloneracer on January 06, 2009, 09:00:12 pm
As the date gets closer, I'll see what I can do.

Remind ME about this in 2 weeks if I haven't responded!!!!!

Almost forgot.
Entry FEE?  What about family/pit crew?

Nic
If your running your SP (think you made it a CP) in stock appearing will my SP fit in that class.  I have Kart spindels and a p700.

My FX is wild as you know, cent clutch/direct drive with kart tires.  Would that be considered a "outlaw single?"

All mowers I bring would be simmilar set up.

Paul

Title: RE: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: nic_hayes on January 06, 2009, 09:10:44 pm
Last few years the "stock appearing" mowers were the ones with shiftable trans, full mower bodies, deck haves, and mower tires, the outlaw classes were kart tires and stuff like fx. So if we are going in comparison to last year you would be in the stock appearing or whatever you want to run.

sp and cp would be stock appearing

bp would be outlaw twin

fx would be outlaw single
Oh forgot about the entry fee, its free for the mowers but you have to buy a pit pass witch is $15 or $25 for a two day pass, cant remember what the regular gate admission is, all info is on www.indoorwinternationals.net (rules are kinda fuzzy so if you have ?'s ask here)

Don't be a wuss Paul I'm going.  I talked to the guy putting this on and he said he's get on here and answer a few questions.  He said $15 a day for the pit pass and $10 a day for the gate fee.  9 hr drive for me.

Hey the Cutloose crews gonna be there if we hafta steal a ride!
Thanks to a crazy work schedule, still have some work to do on mowers, but they will be ready.
Also, the last time we were a commerce seeral of them planned on attending.
Just that I know of, there will be Folks from at least 3 different associations. For all of you with the "Will I be legal" questions, if it is safe he'll make a class for you..If you haven't noticed on the web site, the Mowers are the favorite event.

So the rules are kinda weird. Where did they come from. They state that a front bumper is allowed. Well Jerb and myself are running rear bumpers just seems safer that way. Mine is a Hitchhiker bumper and Jerb is built simular. Another thing is what about the L spindle rule. Some of us run adjustable front ends for the safety factor. So pretty much our class will consist of single cylinders with shiftable trannys on gas.  I hope there will be a safety tech check like brakes, tubes and whatever else could get someone hurt.OH and another thing ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will probably bring it, they can use me as a lapcounter. If it pays well enough I can be a blocker.
I know it will be fun, just don't want to look like a fool. Sounds like some fast mowers, mine is a stock opp. twin that aint 1/2 as fast. Nic there are pics of it on your home site under "my ride". I am still trying to figure this out, not much racing in my part of the world, so not much chance to learn what I am doing wrong, or need to make it better.

i had a wail of a good time this last year with a bone stock flatty, does not matter what ya have, as long as ya have fun doing it, and this gonna be fun, i would be taking my other one with the stock engine, but it has a few parts robbed off of it, to get my new one going in time, it will be going by racing season tho!!! ;)

Anal Glaucoma....Tooo Funny.

Mower1, I had a blast racing your mower last year :P

I might make it over saturday, haven't decided yet.

The problem I can't get around is I am a supervisor, and there is only 1 guy who can cover for me, who also happens to be a preacher. He has a Church trip that week and has been scheduled off for months. So the only wy I could get off is to tell him he can't be gone, which means cancelling the trip for the whole cheurch,so I can go racing. Guess I kinda fear the ramifications of such actions !

Well, unfortunately I won't be able to make this race.   The guys that I ride sleds with have planned our "annual" trip for that weekend.  I can't miss this one as we are going to go ride the Black Hills.  This will be the first time we have gone out there to ride.

Next year!

Direct from the promoter of this event Jay Reynolds.

Springfield Mo Round 2 of the Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals.

Welcome Lawn Mower racers.  Both nights of racing are separate events.  Your entry fee is waived thanks to Race Bros Farm and Home Supply.  Your costs will be a pit pass $15 per person: for racers and pit crew.  A two day pass is available for $25.  A indoor pit stall is $10 for the weekend.  Everything is heated and the pits are really nice.

Numbers need to very visible.  There will be no running motors in the pits or in staging.  All warming up must be done outside.

Three classes are available:  Stock single, outlaw single ( to accommodate kart clutches, kart tires ect.)  and a Outlaw twin class.

I have heard that some don’t like the front bumper rule because it allows others to route others out of the way. Let it be known that our flag man doesn’t put up with any crap, he knows where the black flag is and how to use it.

Are you ready to race in front of thousands of people?

We hope to see all of you here in Springfield Feb 6th and 7th.

how are you running both classes?
Title: Re: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: lowgalaxie on January 30, 2009, 09:14:01 am
The outlaw single class is kart tires and kart clutches that are suppose to be faster and can not run in the stock appearing class.  The stock appearing class has turf tires and shiftable trans with ALL lawnmower body panels so the stock appearing class should be able to run in any class cause they are slower and are NOT a threat to winning the outlaw classes.  >:D Well they're not suppose to be a threat anyways but we'll see.

Looks like alot of the regulars to this race are backing out. Reason unknown, but if we can I would like to make this an ARMA race next year. We'll have to see what the local racer turn out is this year and then we'll know. Who would come to this race if it had ARMA rules.

Crow Bulingame(Bumper to Bumper) also have a warehouse here and you can do the same thing. See yall this weekend.

This is from Jay the promoter:

What’s in store at this year’s Indoor Winter Nationals in Springfield? Friday and Saturday Feb 6th and7th at 7:00 we will have two jump lanes in the infield making a four lane truck track when combined with the Flat Track. We are welcoming Pro Pit Bike Riders from around the Midwest. Four combined ranked pros will be in this year’s Flat Track Field to compete against our regular 20+ area Flat Track Racers. The Radical 500cc Outlaw Karts return with a full field, racing Friday and Saturday both winged and wingless. The wingless feature last year was said to be one of the best of the event.
Several well known areas racers are said to be competing in what could be a record number of Flat Karts, always a crowd favorite; the Hot Rod Lawn Mowers will be here in full force with several “really fast” mowers from out of state.
Look for smoother sign-in, more score keepers and have a great time at this year’s event.
Ned Dirt is back with a vengeance; what will he jump next? Last year, he jumped the motorcycle jumps with a go-kart. Watch for him to host the “Frozen T-Shirt Contest.” You have to got to see it to believe it!
Event T’s will be on sale this year too!
We look forward to seeing you in Springfield Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. (or earlier if you are racing with us). And as Dolly Parton says, “It’s the most fun place to be, I guarantee it.”
Check out our web site for Round 3 in Lebanon, MO in combination with our new racers’ swap meet. www.indoorwinternationals.net

Yup a star clutch with a pully welded to it on the crankshaft.  The ap is a huffy with a cool bore briggs 8hp that has the arc flywheel, cam, and port job.
Look for the purple minivan :P

Good thing i bought 3 seals lol.  This time I got it in straight, but just a little to close :bash: .  When the input shaft goes in the top of the bearing just touches the lip of the seal enough to cause me some greif.  If the bearing or the seal we're a paper width more in or out i'd be ok.  It'd prob wouldn't leak to bad but oh well

I have driven the bearings (bottom in a bit more to get a tighter fit on the seal then add an oring before putting the washer and snap ring. this keeps the bearing from backing out.

Well I am going to be there...it just ate at me too much.
Going to squeeze out early Friday and somebody is going to cover for me saturday..Don't know who yet, don't care. But someone will or else for the first time since I started here maybe my job just won't get done.
I missed the All American because of these people and they're lack of ability to schedule.
So this morning I let them know that in this particular situation, lack of planning on they're part is finally going to screw them, instead of me, I'm going to the Race. Told the boss, who used to manage production for Dixon mowers, to pull that blue (insert favorite adjective here) out and if he can catch me he can drag me in!

The Rooster is flying the coop!

Update!

2 Am, Brakes fixed, transaxle rebuilt, all that is left is change the oil, and I forgot I needed a new battery.

Bent axles make getting transaxle apart a real grind, and cut, and beat....FlyinB is the one who bent it and here I sits middle of night fixin it while he's all comfy and sleeping!

Hey all you Mower guys, I finally figured out how to get on here.
Truth be told my girlfriend did it for me.  Thanks for coming out to the Event this weekend. The weather was beautiful and the racing really was great.  I got to Know a lot of you and am looking forward to seeing you come out again.  I have decided to scrap our rule package and start over.  ARMA rules are at the top of my list.  Our Series runs 3 events in the Winter, Sedalia Mo the Second weekend of November, Springfield Mo the 1st weekend of February and Lebanon MO the 1st weekend of March every year.  We strive to put on top flight shows in front of huge crowds.  I believe this weekend went very well in spite of the rules for the classes that were so vague.  With more defined classes and rules that follow a more universal appeal these three events could be great stops of any one in the country.  Thanks again to everyone that came out and raced.

Fridays show went about as planned. Started right on time at 7:00 sharp, ran 11 classes, 2 b mains and all the features with a finish time of 11:00. That's a lot of racing in 4 hours.

Saturdays evening program went even better. Start 7:00 sharp and ran through 19 A mains and were done, even with Ned Dirt's breaks in between, by 9:45. Now that's a show!!!

The track help together so good that we did not have to water it one time during the show.
Special thanks to Keith Pratt for helping with the track prep, Jeff and Cara Lee Taylor for the water trailer that we never used and Eric White our flagman for a great job. Kevin Pratt, Brad Moad, Jeff Taylor and Steve Mahanah got everybody to the line on time. Kevin, our announcer, Ned Dirt our Clown and Nichole our trophy girl helped keep everybody entertained.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and especially to Monster Energy Drink, Branson West Power Sports and Oreilly Auto Parts.

Most of all thank you to all the Outlaw Kart racers, Lawn Mower Racers, Pit bike racers, Flat Track Racers, and Flat Kart Racers.

We will see you in Lebanon Mo March 6th and 7th for the 3rd round of the IWN and the Racers Swap Meet. http://www.indoorwinternationals.net

Here are the results for the weekend.  Again thanks for coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was great meeting everyone and this weekend just proves that the worst day racing is better than the best day at work. I had a blast even though I had to fight the mower all weekend. I guess it was not my day, beginning to think it never is, but still had fun. I got some ideas to fix my problems from looking at the better mowers, thanks for all the advice from everyone. Glad to know everyone enjoyed it. Missouri is the show me state, I guess is showed all a good time.

Man just the break I needed.
I ran where I expected to, Curtis was as fast as always and Tim's new one is a real nice, fast mower.
Many thanks to Jay and his guys, they treated us like kings and put on one heck of a good show.
We tried to sneak out early and end up spending a couple of hours in the parking lot doing the show & tell thing.

Great people, Great time! If the rules change goes through this will be the winter event to be at next year, I like 70 degree winter races lol!

Our Next event is at Lebanon, MO March 6th  and 7th.  Indoor or course and an ultra cool building.  This might be a good time to give a new rule set a try.

Have talked about it with the guys but we are talking about going to the Urbana race probably Easter weekend. Kinda hard to travel so much layed off, but am trying my hardest to make all. They would really like to see the twins. Can't wait till mine is done. The Lebenon track will be concrete with coke syrup. Not real sure how that would be with a mower. Sorry guess I'm sounding scared. LOL

I will definitely try, but really can't make a commitment.

Another question for Jay & George.
Would this be an ARMA Event, or just using ARMA Rules.

The reason I ask quite frankly is the $25 pit passes. I you add that to the $10 pit Stall fee, and that I will have my boy with me I end up Spending $60 to enter these races with no payback.
I have no problem with racing for no purse.
I also have no problem paying $35 to race.
I do have a little bit of a problem spending $35 to race for no purse.

Jay, I understand you are doing this to make money. But if I understand correctly, the pit pass is for insurance. I believe if this was an ARMA event, they're insurance would cover us.

Consider most of us try to "mower pool", if you have 3 or 4 guys traveling together, that $25 each goes a long ways towads gas and motel. In our case, with 3 of us in the truck would actually pay all of our gas.

Just an Idea.

At this time its simply following ARMA rules. Its 100% Jay's event.
Title: Re: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals

The No pay out was made by some of the racers cause we have never raced for money before so they waved the entry fee which none of us paid.  When we raced last weekend we paid $10 for a pit stall for the weekend and $25 for a pitpass for the weekend and did NOT pay the $25 or $35 dollar entry fee that would have gave us payout. If you want a payout it's going to cost you more to race and hope you place good to get that payout. I am wanting to make this race but am rebuilding my engine on the #20 cause I got a little blowby and a hint of fuel in my oil. When I built this engine because I didn't know if it was going to hold together I just put stock rings with stock piston and no honing or anything. Well Since has been a success I figure I better go ahead and do it right this time with a few more upgrades. Maybe it will be done but I really don't see it.

Just to clarify a few things.

Pit passes were $15 a race and a two day pit pass is $25. Entry fees were waived for the mower classes and pit stalls cost you guys $5 not $10 because two of you can fit in them.  Hope this clarify's the cost equation.
And rember you have to pay to play ;D.

I paid $35 to race for the weekend. They gave nice plaques and gift cards even though there was no payout. Thanks Jay for an excellent weekend and one of the best tracks I have ran on and a great ran schedule. There was plenty of time between races but not to much that you got bored and when you were not racing there was always other racing going on. Man I'm still excited about last weekend. The fans loved it  and I have never had so many people ask me about my mower and it was even cooler when the announcer gave me an interview in front of a full house. I put this race up with the All American race with the one you just have to attend, and it didn't hurt gettin your pic taken with the trophie girl. :woo: Thanks again Jay..Wait till the BIG TWINS come next year will shock the crowd all over again.

I didn't mean to sound as if I was complaining.
The fun we had for the weekend was well worth the money spent.
I was just throwing out the idea that if it was an ARMA event, their insurance could cover us and maybe save us a few bucks and make it easier for more folks to atend.

Jay you put on a really great event and treated us very well, I hope I didn't sound ungrateful.
Thank you for including us !

OK Been Speaking with JAY I need to know who is coming to the lebanon race and what type mower your will be bringing. ARMA rules apply, being this is the first event for these rules my main concern will be safety. Meaning working brakes, working tehtered kill switch, and safety gear. As for class legal I will let you know what class you will fit into, we may combine some classes due to turn out, but unless your machine is truly unsafe everyone races. SO Bring it on and see you there.

Well looks like there will be another impressive show of mowers. Unfortinatly I will not be there but beleive me I want to but have to save for The two day event in Urbana. Just remember there needs to be outlaw single and outlaw twin added to include the ones that have never been under ARMA rules and have been racing there. Safety, this may have saved me an axle. Glad your aboard George, and go SHOW 'EM a good time in the show me state. Now we have a place to go winter racing guys lets make the best of it..

My only question is for next year, if this is going ARMA, will we have to join ARMA to race in these races? I don't want to have to pay for a membership when I would only be racing in 1 arma race. I wont be at Lebanon so this is for next years Springfield race. Just wonderin.

The mowers will never be first over the winged sprints. ALL we are doing is trying to get more organized rules something easier for everyone to have a chance to build a mower to. If there is enough mowers per class each class will be run. If not some will be combined. BUT by having some National rules in place this gives more racers the chance to attend. It gives Jay the opportunity to draw from mowers racers all across the country. 90% don't race thru the winter. This will give them the oppurtunity to do so. It also gives Jay some help mower wise, for one I will be in Lebenon to tech and help setup classes, I have run some big events and I am sure Jay can use all the help he can get and at the same time have a better mower show than before.

George we were pretty orginized at the springfield race. They have alot of racing going on in such short time and there's not much helping to do besides making sure the mower classes are ready when they need to be. Thats what we did and everything seemed to work out fine. It seemed like there was over 300 racers in Springfield. Well have fun and I wish I could be there to rub wheels with some of the Tenn. guys..Have fun and give 'em a good show like the Springfield one.

Curtis I never said it was unorganized nor meant anything was wrong or done wrong or was a bad show in anyway. If what I said was misinterpreted as such I appologize. I was simply commenting on possible advantages of having ARMA on board and the possiblities of having more mowers and providing a better show. Nothing more nothing less.

Nothing taken negative just giving a fare warning cause if you think you are going to get to talk to Jay during the races you probably want. We had a great time and hope ya'll do to., and like I said I wish I could be there but I am going to another track trying to get them turned onto ARMA. I was the first to mention or convence to Jay about ARMA and the rules and after seeing the difference in racers I see he made a change and thats what I am going to try at this new track. ARMA and mower racing is on the rise..

I been doing this 10 years been to many big events like this and I am not going into any event with expectations of anything no warnings needed but appreciated. I think maybe you read more into it than I wrote. Thank you kind sir for your ground work, and devotion to ARMA. Much appreciated. I think Jay and everyone involved appreciate it also. It opens the door to so many more mowers to attend this event. Great job. I am but a racer going to have fun and help as I am ask to do when and if needed. Just another nobody at this event. Humbled by the chance to race in the winter with other racers of like mind.

Depending on the show in Lebanon, maybe an all mower show in the future. How cool would that be a winter race for all mowers from all sides of the sport.  They could call it The Missouri Winter Mowdown, to start the race season.

In the meantime lets show our appreciation for the opportunity Jay is giving us mower racers and show him some great racing. Thumbs up for Jay and his programs and love for the entire motor sports program.

Sweet I do not know the history. Just glad we are part of it.

ON a side Note, Jay has expressed concern with smoking racers. This is indoors and ventalation is not like being outdoors so understand if your mower starts smoking you will be black flagged. If its smoking when ya start it up you don't go out. Just a heads up

Been working on the Kansas Mowfast club and we had our meeting today and looks like they are turning in there club approval form soon. We may just have the first ARMA group of Kansas and I'm a part of it.Man this is coming along better than I thought. If all goes well we may have 2 or three tracks atleast running ARMA rules if not an ARMA track. As I said before ya'll will be very pleased with the show you will be a part of and go show em a heck of a time.

I agree the show is great, and hats off to Jay for doing it. Now about the smoke I understand that we are inside and that there are fumes, anyone that goes to an indoor race should expect some, as far as smoke the 500cc outlaws make more smoke and fill up the building quicker than who dunit.

The mowers were not spoke of as being a problem with smoke no class was mentioned, there was simply a memo sent out and smoking vehicles were on it and that if it happened they would recive the blag flag immeadiately or if smoking not get to start. So no one take it to heart. It may be simply a memo put out by the local fire marshal that was passed on. So lets get ready to rumble, indoor style!!! Yeha!!!!

Hey guys.  Turn out is sounding good.  We have a great opportunity to get the word out about lawn mower racing in this area but I need your help :D. We would like a great turnout both Fri and Sat.

The plan is to pack the house on Friday and Invite them back Sat morning to the Swap meet we are having the next morning right on the track from 7:30-11:00.  This way the fan's can get closer to the racers, ask questions and maybe help them make the decision to become participant's.  Maybe George would like to do a short build seminar?

In order to really get the local area fans involved I have made Friday night kid's night.  Kid's 5-12 can purchase an advance ticket from Oreilly's or Hardee's of Lebanon for $1. Adult's are only $10.

To pull this off, I need both fan and racers to show in full force.
This is truly a first class facility.

Thanks guy's and Spread the Word.

Guy's,
If I can defer class questions to George for this event.  I am using it as a learning event regarding ARMA classes. George has been gracious enough to come help show me the ropes  of ARMA classes and rules during this event.  The goal is for bigger and better things in the future.  This is one reason for the importance of a good turnout during this event.  Just keep building bigger and better.

Limited indoor pit's will be available.

Jay would you be the one with the final scoring decisions? I just think it would be more just to score the class. Combining them to make a bigger field in one race is fine, as long as it is fair to all involved.
Title: Re: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: George Herrin on February 23, 2009, 11:37:18 pm
As long as the scorer can give a complete finish order it can be scored per class. I will have to see what we have once there. BE SURE your numbers are readable. The easier to read the better the scorers can do their jobs. They cannot record what they cannot see/read.

The Springfield race was great, I had problems but still had a blast meeting new people, I think I even learned a little. Hopefully the Lebanon race will be even better, that would be AWESOME!!!

found out chrome numbers on a headlight lens are kinda hard to read!! electrical tape saved the day!!

I have worked as a scorer and chrome numbers are some of the hardest to read in my opinion. Easy to read numbers are app 5" tall dark numbers on bright background or bright numbers on dark backgrounds.

I would sure like to make it but not sure right now. It would be cool to run with all classes again and I probably will if I go but as it was pointed out and some of got changed it is not fair to run the faster mowers with the slower ones and if so it should not be scored so. Anyway what pro-x's will be there?
Title: Re: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals

ARMA classes are J/P, Super Stock, Mini Sportsman, Sportsman, Mod-x, Super Sportsman and Pro-x  Classes would be combined as follows  J/P n Superstock, Mini and Sportsman, Mod-x and Pro-X, and the SuperSportsmans I try to keep seperate because they are or can be stupid fast.

Yea Mowerpar's pro-x I would compare to one of the pro-x's in Tenn. with the honda engine's on them. They were black I think. He was the only one that beat me in Springfield, last race fri. night by may'be a mower length , but hey I got beat. Sounds fun.

Jay,
Is it true that you have ordered Mower Proof hay bales for Lebanon?

Has anybody ever raced on this "Coke Syrup"?
How does it compare to dirt?

Coke sysup is simply a ball to race on. Its smooth and get pretty good traction. Last time I was on it I would get up on two wheels in the corners. Awesome I love it.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I aint ever heard of racing on coke syrup. Isn't it all gooey and sticky? Would it stick to the tires and get flung all over? Might be hard to keep your faceshield clean. Do you take some carbonated water along and scrape up a little syrup to mix in when you get thirsty? :woo:

I have heard that it is messy to but others say it's not that bad, and heck George I do the two wheels thing on dirt but I bet it is alot more fun on concrete cause of the cosistincy. YeeHaw

well, as time gets closer i keep wondering what coke syrup is like on a mower, and the thought of seing "superman" in person is about to drive me crazy! but i do have one 2 questions. 1. would slicks be leagle in the pro-x cuz the rules say kart tires but all i have ever seen them run are dirt tires 2. in the mini sportsman would they let like racer fabricated running boards pass, like the ones f/x and pro-x mowers run? Thanks!! :D
Title: Re: Monster Energy Indoor Winter Nationals
Post by: George Herrin on February 24, 2009, 07:01:56 pm
It is not as messy as one thinks. And its easy to wash off with hot soapy water much easier than mud.

Slicks are legal in pro-x as for fabricated running boards such as pro-x no its not legal in mini BUT I am not turning anyone away UNLESS the mower is unsafe.  I will let you know what needs to be done to comply with ARMA rules so you know next time. Don't worry about how legal ya are come race we will fit you in and if its not legal will let ya know what ya need to do to be legal.

Reply to what is coke syrup like.  We apply the syrup the day before, and we don't put on as much as you would think, but actually only 2hrs dry time is needed.  we track it in to spread it around. it drys  this is the time when it is the stickiest.  We run hot laps and rubber from the tires bonds to the syrup.  After the rubber is down their is no more mess, unless you move out of the black grove ,  the black grove is where it is the fastest.  As the race goes on the surface actually changes just like a dirt track usually does, becoming a little slicker.  some of the high powered cars and potentially mowers will slide a little.   On a dirt Micro Sprint you will usually start with your loosest set up to start and gradually tighten her up .  just like a normal surface.  Don't be afraid of change, embrace it.
and as Mikey always says: try it you might like it.

Just a heads up on safety items I will be looking at Proper safety gear Full finger gloves, neck brace, long sleeves and long pants, and don't forget your helmet either, over the ankle foot wear, , Working Tether kill switch, working brakes, tight steering, wheels securely attached, automatic throttle return, working clutch. Sharp edges. If these are an issue thats a no race safety issue.

So check your mowers over. We want to have a great time racing but want everyone to be safe doing so.

well here we go again with my mower not up to standars with the rules... could i possibly get by with just running direct drive. been wanting to put a foot clutch on it but never got around to it, im running an 820 transaxle so 1st gear is extremely low almost a crawl. would love to get feedback asap. so i can make changes.

Thanks Brett

The feature Mike did a great job for the first time in competition on a twin, BUT his rookie youthful exitment got the best of him. We swapped the lead several times BUT in the end it was SUPERMAN with the winS. Ole Mooseburger found out what a herrin Chassis and Indian can do. He is ruined now.

Was an honor to meet new folks and put faces to the names, ole rooster is a claas act and his buddie pulled off an amzing engine swap. Aweome job by everyone, Moose your can drive..... I would share the track with any ofyou anytime. Mikevand moose left there marks on my mower, but it was good clean awesome tight racing and the crowd went wild. They loved us in the autogragh session and got to meet many great up and coming drivers. Even had them autograph my race jersey. Jay and his staff are great folks and do a whale of a job. Well i just walked in the door from a long drive back for Lebanon , MO ................. and all i can say right off is if you ever have a chance to race on coke syrup ............. DO NOT PASS IT UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the time of my life ........ and like george say's ...... It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on  Last night us mower racers an a few others set up a table up front and signed programs and T-shirts for the crowd as they entered the track .......... the look on the kids faces where priceless ....... i could care less if i won or even got a trophy after doin that ....... that was worth the trip  8) We had alot of fun and did'nt tear up too much ......... i broke a valve spring retainer and got REAL lucky that it did'nt swallow the exhaust valve in the process .... but i got her back together  :D Rusty was riding one of georges mowers "Ole Red" and broke a input shaft on a tranny ... "The Coke Syrup DON'T Give" .... but rusty and george flew in on it and got er done ......... so that put us back on the track. Rooster's budd blew the single up on his mower and went to a local salvage yard and picked up a Tecumseh TWIN ............ he flew in on it and had parts a flyin .......... and about 4 hours later he was ridin that bad boy ....... very impressive  SO that put 4 of us on the track for ONE heck OF A SATURDAY NIGHT FEATURE !!!!!!! We ran a 20 lap feature ........... me and george swapped the lead several times .... and rusty was knockin on our back door the whole time  ........ we all ran so close we could have reached out and touched each other any time we wanted  ...... and the last 3 laps we where 3 wide  :woo: ...... and MAN WHAT A RUSH!!! Ole Rooster's bud was runnin a bone stock Twin ...... and we did'nt catch him till the last lap and thats where the 3 wide ended ....... i tucked in behind george and rusty went high ......... it was a race to the stripe ........ but as always the one and only "AKA SUPERMAN George Herrin took us to school and took the WIN with me finishing 2nd and rusty takin 3rd and larry 4th. You could'nt ask for a better race .......... the fans where out of control ............ they loved the show . I want to say thank you to everyone who made this show possible .... it is an experiance i will never forget.  8) 8) 8)     ..................... Oh yeah George ............ Sorry about all the marks on your rear fenders  ..... i was just lettin you know that i was there

The only time that intek got close enough to touch me was when I was used as front brakes  for that thing.  Besides I had to keep him close to show him how to get around the track  :D  Get that boy some brakes he might not run over me as much.... It wasn't HP thats for sure.  >:D

Yup, Didn't even have time to say "Oh.." nothing!Lol
Rusty spun, Mike went high, which I saw as an opputrtunity to nail it and pass him low until I realized there was a moose in the road!

Lesson learned, I say iffin you try to flog a moose in the head, you just might, I say ya just might bruise a wing on his antlers there boy!

Wrenched all morning to get the front end fixed before the heats, started off for a test drive and no go on the transaxle.

200 miles for a two day race and 2 laps into first heat it was over, thats racing.

Had a great time with those guys, shoulder is healing up fine!

Another bit of advice, dont try to pull one over on George, Superman is as quick witted as he is driving!

Well as long as your plans weren't "I think I'll drive backwards for this corner and reduce the competition." It's just a racing deal. Once in awhile you see the wrong end, happens to everyone.
Pulled the transaxle last night, take it apart when I get home this evening, be ready for test & tune at local track in 2 weeks, then take it all back apart for a repaint and body fix-up before Urbana race 2 weeks later.
Also have the boy's ride to do same with LOL...gonna be some long nights!

Someone remind me, who said they wrecked on dirt hard as concrete?

Ohh, BTW folks, if you ever crash on a Coke Syrup race, don't let the track officials talk you into laying down on the track! I like to never peeled my skinny butt out of that mess!

We about had to peel george off of it as well  ....... he bailed off his mower after takin the checkerd flag in the friday night feature ....... and those racing shoes where like magnets on that syrup  ......... it took him a couple of steps to catch his balance again.

We had a blast Jay.
Thank you for an excellent venue.
Personally, I think Springfield & Lebanon would be awesome places for a season kickoff.
And Sedalia would be a great way to get one more race in the Fall!
It's central location is not too far for almost anybody to come down and really test that winter build out!
I know you guys from up north gotta be jonesin' for some track time by February & March!

Next Year everybody needs to come show them kart fellers what Mower Hosspower is about! :D

Lol..Yup ,the syrup makes it tough to groom the tailfeathers,And the cement is really hard on the beak!

JAy I think an open invitational is an awesome idea. ARMA rules and the two new classes for 09 gives a class for dern nearanyone out there. ALL US mowers are leagal per ARMA rules and the two new classes reach out to those with offset and wider than normal chassis. Can't make Sadalia we have our annual ALL American that weekend. Last year we had 124 mowers. It too is an open invitational. Anyhow thanks to your whole crew on a job well done.
