Title: What pulleys and sprockets to use
Post by: Lucas on October 19, 2017, 07:46:05 pm
Hello all. I’m looking for some information on pulley to chain and sprockets sizes, I’m running a 18 hp vangaurd all stock. I am using a peerless ragb. 1-1 ratio, and I was wondering if anyone could lead me into the right direction as to what do try for pulleys and sprockets? Our tracks are 200’ to 225’ long the setbup I have now seems to leave me lazy out of the corners. I have a 6 on my engine and 10 on the box with a 16 tooth to a 60 tooth? Any info be great

Way to slow gearing. Your maxed out, out of the corner Need to probably make engine a 4 to a 4 on gearbox. What is your tire size?

Ok, I got that wrong. Your gearing seems to be way to high. You could try maybe a 3.5 on the engine and a 7 on the trans. Overall, you are running huge pulleys which add weight to the drivetrain, and slows acceleration and deceleration. Maybe do the 3.5 and the 7 and drill a few holes some what far apart to lighten the load on the engine. Might also want a little more power. If so, try slapping some copper head gaskets on for a little more compression, advance the cam a gear, get rid of the paper filter, maybe velocity stack and high flow filter if you want to spend the $$$, and do a small timing advance key.

When I first got the mower it was running a 5 and 7 and 11 and 54 sprockets. It does seem to work a little better now thou!. Should I change the sprockets any with the 3.5 and 7.?

Leave your pulleys alone and change front sprocket from 16 teeth to 15 teeth and try it, if you need more than that go to a 14 tooth front gear
