Title: Hi all, need info on Kohler interchanges
Post by: boatmoter on February 27, 2015, 06:28:51 pm
have a k-301 on a 1975 JD 212 that I want some more HP out of the old beast.., what I would like to do is use a k-341 bare block and use all the goodies out of the k-301 in it other than the piston, rod & head, will the bearing covers and oil pan and Flywheel, crank,  well, pretty much everything interchange??  if so will I need to bore the main jet or just enrich-en it by the hi speed jet??   Thanks guys..  looks like the 16 & OHC 18 K engines are rare and expensive..  if you can find one

Most parts interchange. The crank will fit but won't work because it is no where near balanced for the 16hp rotating assembly. Bearing plate will fit. Cam is the same. Carb will fit but is small compared to what is normally on a 16hp. The 18 is an ohv not ohc.

Flywheels interchange. They are for the most part neutral balanced. The crank is the big issue. 14hp and 16hp have full round counter weights. 10 and 12 do not.

This is for a grass cutter, so no mods for that. Get a bigger stock engine and be done with it.
