Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: TIMING QUESTION
« on: July 05, 2013, 03:54:57 pm »
I set up 2 arc flywheels and the timing came in at 39 degrees BTDC with full retard on the ARC hub.
Here is a note I found in my research. I believe it is from George Heren but not sure.

Every OHV I have seen thus far had the coil offset from where it is on a flathead.
The first OHV I built I degreed  the ARC flywheel in.  At full negative using a stock key, it was around 39 degrees BTDC, which is way too much.
Hence the reason a lot of guys are breaking the cranks on OHV’s.
I have yet to see an OHV where the coil wasn’t offset.
Not saying they doesn’t exist, but all the ones I have laying around are offset.

Something to think about guys!

Good Luck

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: 28ci Rings
« on: May 31, 2013, 04:43:04 pm »
I got a free 31 AVS. Tried to buy a ring set and I found out I couldn't buy rings to fit the piston. Different style of oil ring. I had to buy a new, current piston, to get new rings.
Good Luck

How do I insert an image in a post.
I choose "Insert Image" and I get        "[img] [img]".
How do I put in the image?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / An AVS for a stock governed class ?

Is an AVS Briggs going to hold together in a stock governed class. Do the AVS short commings cause problems when not exceeding 3650 RPM.

I didn't know there was a different format.

Briggs Flathead / Re: arc crank

I just ordered a crank .
When I called ARC I was told  it would be balanced very close for a 28 cu in with their 6820 rod with the AVS short skirt piston.

Tried to use the code "free ship" per instructions from ARC.
Wouldn't except the code.
Be sure to double check with ARC if you want the free shipping!

Check the rules!  I think there must be at least 1" left after cutting.?

Briggs Flathead / Re: ARC Brass weights
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:45:39 pm »
I had the ARC weights put on my 28 OHV crank at EC. Sent the crank and ARC rod and AVS short skirt piston to a local balancer. He said there was nothing he could do to improve the balance.  I top out at 6000 RPM at the end of the straight. I am finishing my second season with this motor and it runs as strong as it did when new.  I don't think the balance is quite up to Tommy Daniels spec, but it seems to be reliable with the ARC brass weights !
