Drag Mowers / Re: Pully Size
« on: March 13, 2018, 09:08:09 pm »
whatever sizes you need for your gear ratio.  remember, the larger the pulley the better the grip on the belt.
I know that isn't much help, but figure your top speed and rpm and work backwards from there.

easy, when you took the carb apart, the needle came out of a hole. Now do tell if that hole has a brass sleeve in it with a tiny hole (1/16" or 1/8")  that's your difference.  big one gravity feed, little one fed by pumping apparatus

bout the only thing you can do if you want it to idle is drill a small air hole in the butterfly.  Start small and work up..only way to keep the transfer slots in the right spot and yet get any kind of idle mix once it's past stock.

Just use the avs rod and piston together.  The avs rod is a little better I think.  It's what the rest of the crew at Puk run in mod.

Dont know what class you are running, but yes, no replacement for displacement.  That being said, handling will far offset hp.  At any rate, better to race than not, yes?  Build the 28, it'll surprise you.

Or a sheared flywheel key. That is, if one was used...

Most of the action seems to take place on the facebook pages.  You'll also find a lot of the back yard beaters there too.  Many have been turned off of this site due to perseverance about building safe machines to be raced, vs just "how do I make my mower do 50mph".

It'll do just fine. It will be a bit messier due to the open bushings. 700 cases were both ways, no worries.   Should be a lip seal at the lower end of the input once you are done, no seals etc above that. You want the oil getting to those bearings.

You might look into Big Dog Racing out of Chadron, NE.  I don't know a thing about them, but they show up on the USLMRA map search.  Also a group out of Edgemont, SD, again I know nothing about them.... I think if you search on here you will find something on them...?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Looking for valves

Get yourself a new head off Amazon or such.  Cut about .090 for a new head to leave room for truing. A seasoned head you'll go more.  After the head is seasoned, can play with valve angles and seat angles and improve dramatically upon the 28 head.  There is more support near the pushrod area in the new design head that will be important if you are running a 33, as that area likes to blow out the head gasket.  You can back cut both valves, do some port work, depending upon rpm change intake seat to 30° if lower rpm/stock cam.  Get your valvetrain angles right.  Index your spark plug, cut the ground electrode. All small things, but as superman said, enough of them add up.
