Thats something most people figure out on their own. I used a few zip ties and springs. Also a wire terminal.

I like the vanguard. I ran a 35 ci with long arc rods, stock pistons, v280 camshaft, ec springs and retainers. Ec big bore carb on 38 ci intake and head. Freaking loved it. Only thin I did to the heads was opened the spring pockets so the dual spring would drop in there. Good luck on your new engine.

If your going that far with the build, I would most definitely invest in a set of rods.

Try looking at some of the links on here. I used stock pistons that I faced on a lathe with arc long rods, from ec. Good luck.

I was told the needle's are the same, its the seat that is different... I think the seat for the fuel pump is actually around .020 smaller. I know a guy that had the same issues. Tried everything to no avail. Pump and seat change, gravity feed, minus fuel filter. Pump with an in line restrictor. If its rough, guess it runs rough. Lol. Idk. Sorry for not being much help.

Yes you can bypass. You will not get much help from anyone on this site. All of these guys go threw all of the required safty steps to race these things, on race tracks. They do not appericate people who want to build..let's say a "death trap" You can make a reasonably priced racing mower. Look up the rules for maybe the gp class. Until you inquire info on a purpose built race mower, you won't get much help.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: stock parts vs double valve springs

Try to find two steel push rods. If your using a stock cam, why use double springs? I have stock rockers on ec dual springs with stock push rods and an ec billet cam. Seems to work fine for me. I have broke one rocker once. I'd rather break a rocker than rip out the stud... Leaving a big hole in the head.

In our local club we have at the very most 20 racers. We have never had an awards banquet. We still all enjoy racing that's the real reason we do it... Its fun. We do however buy some meat to cook and ask people to bring a dish to pass. That helps keep it cheap. Then we drink beer and bench race. Its a lot of fun.

I don't think useing the stock flywheel @ an rpm range under 6000 would be at much risk off comming apart. Boats run them vanguards around that rpm range without any problems. I believe they use stock flywheels. Correct me if I'm wrong. Don't mean to ruffle any feathers here. I know in the mower racing world they are manditory, which I agree with.

Its an 01 that cuts a couple acres so its pry just worn out. He tore it apart, head gasket didn't seem to be bad. The only obvous damage was in one cylinder. You can feel a low spot, its down pry an inch or so. Its not scratched and does not run parell with the cylinder and its only towards the pan side of the block. Kinda wierd, although I've heard that is where they like to wear, since gravity kills. Also the cylinders look pretty polished no cross hatch form hone. I'm calling it junk. Lol thanks for the help. Unless it might be able to be honed and new rings. I guess it just one of those things it might work or...might not.
