Tecumseh Engines / Vtwin issues
« on: April 06, 2009, 09:39:26 pm »
Hey guys
Ive got a 691 twin with a precision cam from ec, roller rockers, stainless valves  double valve springs, big carbs done by me, its got just about all the good stuff.
It idles fine but when you give much throttle it starts missing after around 5 laps,  before the 5 laps it runs great.
I checked fuel pump output and its great.
I changed needles and seats and cleaned the carbs 10 times.
I changed the main jets and emulsion tubes.
The valves are adjusted to .004 right on.
I changed both coils and diodes.
I tried champion, autolite and ngk sparkplugs.  Spark is excellent.
It has 120 psi compression on both sides.
Did a leak down test with no abnormal leakage anywhere.
Syncronized the carbs by the book and with vacuum guages.
No intake or head gasket leaks.
Ive tried 87, 91 and 115 octane gas.  Changed fuel filter and gas lines.
Am I missing something????  I cant figure this thing out.

Briggs Flathead / cam question
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:41:36 am »
We have an 8hp briggs flat head with about 25 races on it
The exhaust lobe of the cam rounded out,  has anyone had this problem too??
There was no binding  we clearanced the block so the lifters wouldnt bottom out and there was no coil bind of the valve springs.
The valve clearance is .005 and .007.
We also changed the oil every race and used mobil 1 synthetic 5w30.
The springs are ec dual with the inner spring removed.
Any ideas or is the bronze used the build up the cam just too soft??

Tecumseh Engines / exhaust systems
« on: January 06, 2006, 06:34:26 pm »
with the vtwins should one run straight duals or an xpipe or just a balance pipe between the duals
ive read,  with cars the xpipe makes more power and scavenges better
anyone experimented with this stuff  does it make a difference on these motors

has anyone toyed with the idea of plating the cylinders like motorcycles or snowmobiles have  wondering would this be worth it or just too expensive for the durability
