Today is a bittersweet day for me. Today was the end of the road for the 11k, The machine I built last year with alot of blood, sweat, and tears is headed south to it's new home. I have decided to step away from this sport and pursue some other interests. I will attend some races this year and help out in the pits as much as I can. Guys, I have loved racing with all the great guys I've met and I'll stay in touch.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / intek twin oil pressure
« on: September 09, 2013, 10:03:42 pm »
On my 44ci twin I want to increase the oil pressure from 38-40psi on track to 60-70 psi. Will the briggs pump do this? How do you go about getting the plug out of the sump where the regulator is?

What is the easiest, correct way to figure out what length my push rods need to be? I've never done this and don't want to ruin a good set of chromo push rods.

Honda and Clone Engines / Great News Possibly Developing!
« on: March 16, 2013, 01:26:38 am »
I stumbled across a possible new place for big block clone engines. I'm not going to post the web link just yet for this site to be sure it is Mower racing worthy, but I have a GX440 clone engine ordered and when it arrives I'll be posting pics during the unboxing. Followed by a teardown to inspect the engine further inside and out. Some details on these engines are: 440cc, 92mm bore by 66mm stroke. 18hp claimed stock out of the box. Engines are sold as long blocks without carburetors, Exhaust, Or fuel tank. They can be purchased in either electric start or pull only. To be race ready these engines will require a billet flywheel, rod, and head work. Balance shaft is included with engine as well to stop the eyeball popping some of these engines can cause. Representative from this company stated that they went to the plant where these are built with pluses and minues of all other clone engines built and made changes to these engines where needed to address clone deficiencies and further strengthen the good points. Engines come from factory with no governor to remove or oil alert sensors to remove(Block castings are blocked in these locations). Spark plug boot looks to be upgraded and coil is supposed to be non rev limiting. Cams offered by this merchant are ground by Tim Iskenderian at small engine cams. They have a few different cam grinds available. upgraded valves, and Billet Rods are offered from Parson's Racing Supply, Along with ARC flywheels and rods. Rockers and other various parts from raceseng are also listed. Base GX440 longblock is $329 for non-electric start and $349 for the electric start version. New stock bare heads are $28.00 so you could buy 2 or 3 heads and work on different porting and valve combo's and be able to test much easier. Here are the supplier sourced tech specs:

These engines are made to our specifications and are the only Straight-shaft 439cc Honda GX390 "big bore clones" available for purchase in the United States. They are EPA-exempt and are currently sold only in longblock form to racers and engine builders of racers.

We maintain positive direct contact with our factory to ensure consistency and the ability to continually improve these engines as time goes on. We appreciate all feedback(positive or negative) and would like to hear from you, regarding what you (the racers) want in these engines.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Intek twin running hot
« on: October 30, 2011, 10:17:46 am »
I have an intek twin with mild head work and arc rods and wheel as well as an Isky cam. Im having trouble with this thing running hot. I have the timing retarded all the way on the arc wheel. The carb is a stock briggs with low jets drilled and an adjustable hi jet. My last race the temp got to 465 on the head. The plugs are running a chocolate brown color. I'm at a loss as to why this motor wants to run hot. I'm thinking about trying to build a ring in the Shroud to make the flywheel move more air or mount a fan on top the shroud running off the battery to help cool the motor. The other question I have is could the fuel left from race to race be going stale and causing the hot temps?

Hello to all Midwest racers! I am Justin Altemeier, On Behalf of the CILMRA, I would like to invite as many of you to come race with CILMRA, For a two day race weekend, In two different Central Iowa locations. First up is our first annual Collins Days Event in Collins, Iowa. The Collins event is one of our travel dates we have this summer. Collins is a small town northeast of DesMoines about 30 or so miles right off of US65. The track is on the southwest corner of Collins. I can personally vouch that the racing surface will be as smooth as any track you'll run on. These guys want this to be a successful event 100%. There will be tow money for the racers as well as concessions and Camping with electrical hook ups to be made available in Collins to any out of town/state racers that would like to stay in Collins after the races before going to Carlisle the next day. Plan to arrive in Collins around 11:30am or so with the drivers meeting around noon and racing at 1pm. Following the races in Collins there will be a BBQ Chicken Dinner with a large street dance to follow. And in addition if the mood strikes you Collins is having a large Garden tractor Pull on Friday evening if you'd like to come in early and make a long weekend of this two day racing event! As I mentioned before, camping will be made available to the racers travelling in for both events in Collins. Then stay around to run at our second track of the CILMRA in Carlisle Iowa, River Bottom Raceway. The Hartford Members of CILMRA have been working very hard to make a first-rate facility in Carlisle. They have set up bleachers, Buried wire for Corner red-green-yellow lights and speakers as well as track lighting. Plan to arrive in Carlisle about the same time as Collins the day before with racing to begin around 1-2pm. Carlisle is about 36 miles Southeast from Collins. The track in Carlisle is right on the east edge of town on the south side of Highway 5. Both tracks are easy to get to by making maps of of mapquest. This will be a great event for two days of racing at two differently laid out tracks. We hope to get as many racers to attend as possible as this will be the first race for both locations and we hope to Get Collins of to a long standing Racing destination on the CILMRA schedule as well as help our Carlisle track get off to a great start for our 2011 season. Hope to see you there!!!
