Kohler Engines / Re: Magnum twin question
« on: August 30, 2014, 07:18:38 pm »
14-18 same thing, different stickers. I've flipped a few 14's over to horz for pulling, 14hp & under can run 4000rpm stock class where the 15 & up turn 3800 reason for trying it.
swap out the crank, rods, jugs from the 20 mag into the smaller engines to make a "Stroker" 14hp engine  ;)

Kohler Engines / Re: Head question

Heads for horizontal engines have oil return passage on the intake side while the vertical heads have the oil passage on the exhaust side. You can easily drill out the passage to make one work on the other.
Other than that they are same head, same valve sizes, springs. Now the 25/26/27/28/29hp versions have larger combustion chamber which will drop comp ratio on the smaller cc engines like the 16/18/19/20/22/23 if popped on.

some machines have a relay connected to the safetey switches like the pto switch, brake pedal, seat switch & the hyro pedal position switch. might be the relay chattering? casued by a loose connection internally?

Trying out a few crankshafts, rods & cams that have been treated after being micro polished, balanced. We'll see how it looks & wears at the end of 2013.  Have had my rifle barrels treated, as the barrel heats up it doesnt wander a tiny lil bit like they used to.

Have bought a few items from Zach in the past few years, havnt had any issues. Several years ago I did send him a connecting rod from a cv492 command engine to see if he'd take a look to make rods for the command singles, dont think he did but ya never know he might be looking now ;)

I remember there used to be alot fo guys running the 50 cube singles with twin carbs on them but not quite the intake like this. Well heck, upside down factory might be as good as anything else.
Somedays the ideas flow into a river of stewpidness but then theres always one that produces, we'll try this one of these days.

Well, idea was hatched one eve from a friend who got uncomfortably quiet for a few minutes then he began grabbing parts off the shelf.
I finished my "Silver labeled Pepsi" & put it on as the oil filter & went back to the house to leave him alone with his creation

what rpm? my experiance with the big blocks are the coils begin to cut out around 4500 rpm, almost like a rev limiter. Very similar to the newer coils in the non SAM ignition.  At least they can be changed out rather easilly.

and these ohv engines are a blast! they can be found in repair shops boneyards, picked up cheap or even for free ;)
just a tid bit of a story from this year, cv16 flipped to horz for pulling, did a 3 angle valve job, micro polish crank & cam. Installed a carter #26, that is it & began pulling at 3800rpm beating a flatty with a vogel rod & piston, reground cam, worked valves & then ate a few 20hp twin cyl tractors in the twin class........repeatedly  >:D   these engines will revive alot of interest just like the v-twins did a few yrs ago, great lil engines!

MWSC & Lakota both have these rockers that look ALOT alike, adjustable for the solid lifters, aluminum roller tip & ride on a fulcrum with a stabilizing shaft thru the center. Glad to see some renewed interest in these singles!
Noticed no guideplate, prob dont need one but a factoy plate could be used if one is needed.

I need to clean & reorganize my shop, either that or hire a secretary, the engine I was looking for has been long gone to a puller for several months now.
Another thing u could try, put a small collar inside the pivot of the chevy roller that the 3/8 stud goes & reduce down to the orignl 5/16 & use adjustable push rods, maybe that would work?
