Driveline / Re: could i just use non-fluid brakes?
« on: August 13, 2010, 02:36:51 pm »

We used a mechanical caliper on our S/P for years and we always ran in the top five.
You just have to get the ratio correct between your pedal and the caliper we did this with a bell crank.
We used the mechanical caliper from ARC and a 10" rotor from a motorcycle. If you don't use the bell crank the brakes are to
touchy and they lock up as soon as you touch them. We set the bell crank so that it took more pedal movement to move the
     brake rod a little.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Briggs 28 OHV Breaking up!

A quick way we found to restrict the pulse line was to put a 10-32 nut into the line, one that wont be sucked into the engine
or blown the other way. Once we did that it solved a lot of problems as a matter of fact one of our old engines is still running around that way. Since then we have gone to a much smaller hole on the intake when we build a single. Just a quick way to check it. Our Indian takes the pulse off the block.

When we ran S/P with our wide body and the 820/ 017 we ran a 6 engine to a 4 on the bottom of the jackshaft
and a 5 to a 5 on the top. But we always kept a set up for the top of 5.5 to a 4 or 6 to a 4 depending on track length and
RPM we ran in third gear with the six speed 820. We always ran in the top five of USLMRA nationally.

  A 820 transaxle with the 017 kit will have these ratios --- 1st-26-1, 2nd-12-1, 3rd- 8.75-1, 4th-6-1,5th-4.50-1 and 6th-3.75-1

  The parts are:

   output shaft-776318
   axle gear27t-778274
   spur gear 19t-778275
   output gear31t-778276
   spur gear 19t-778277
    spacer   786148

And then you need to take a one inch kart axle and eliminate the spider gears.
I have three of these 820s and yes they are worth about the price you where quoted.

I will most likely make it this time, I don't plan to be out of town.
I always wanted to hold superman's cape and it will only be that much better if his evil minion
Bert is there also. I've been called Bert's evil minion enough that I'm starting to believe it.
I'll see if I can talk Dave and Mitch into coming along also.

I would go with the Acme hubs we had a rash of Northern tool hubs come apart here in Illinois on everything from IMOWs to C/Ps.

Briggs Flathead / Re: Carb issues?
« on: May 13, 2009, 09:08:38 pm »
If it has my name etched on it it is the one from George. Wow don't get old the memory goes. I thought it was the one I gave you in Mendota with no adjustments for the main jet. What ever happened to that one? Or am I mistooken again. Wow old age is setting in where's my medication. I prefer the one with the mountains that turn color when the contents are cold enough. It's got to be in the float or needle and seat.   Tony

Mike - I don't think that is a George carb. I think thats the one that just had the jet opened up a little and the vent in the carb bore
plugged for cornering. Thats an old school carb that I did myself.  The ones from George had my name etched in the top of them. One should be on the engine that Jeff got and the spare I think Mitch has. The one you have doesn't have an adjustable jet.  Tony

Chassis / Re: i have a problem

On some of the older Fords the second post was to send 12 volts to the coil for starting then when you let go of the key the coil got a lower voltage through a balast resistor something like 8 volts for running so you didn't burn up the points. Yes I'm giving away my age here but use the post that works and leave the other bare or better yet taped.  Tony

Hey George I have a question about your build clinic- Is there any charge like to get in or for any of the info you are giving out?
The reason I ask is because there was just a recent build clinic that actually charged money to get in. I thought the idea was to build new racers not to make money. Last time the local here ran a build clinic the local picked up the bill for everything.
