No personal experience, but I did find this side by side comparison on youtube.  I'd say for $40, it'd be worth a shot.

Ground the battery to the engine block. Sometimes just to the frame doesn't make a good ground to the block. the block is where the starter gets its ground from, and if its not grounded good, you'll have a hard time turning it over. Just my 2 cents.

Shannon,

The gears from the 820 transaxles should fit and work in your 700 transmission, since some 700s already have 820 gears in them originally.  All available 820 ratios are listed in the Peerless 820 Transaxle & 017 Kit post here in the Driveline section.  And...all 820 gears are heat-treated.

So in theory, I could put two 23:27 gear sets in there, and just install them opposite of each other (23:27, and 27:23), and get the small adjustments up and down from 1:1 that I'm looking for?

I apologize.....I haven't ran the full ratio calcs yet, and not sure how much of a difference those ratios would make.

Driveline / 2 speed peerless 700 and adding additional gears

Guys I'm currently using a factory 2 speed peerless 700 out of  Murray Lawn Chief.  I'm finding out that this seems to be a rarity, as I've never even heard of anyone else having a 2 speed.  Would it be worthwhile to add a couple more gears (small adjustment up and down from 1:1)?  Also, I've heard there are certain transaxles that you can rob gears out of, that are direct fit into these 700's.  Is that true, and if so, what model tranaxle?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I gotta say, I watched the whole show and I thought it was GREAT! And I'll bet there was more than one person who watched the show and said... That's neat, I'm gonna have to check out these racing mowers! I think I can do that!

I'm sure it will get more people interested in our sport than somebody saying "Do we really want those idiots in our sport."  Everybody has to start somewhere. I know how I got started in this sport, and safety was not even close to being on the top of my list. I just wanted to go as fast as possible! It's a lot different, now, (all though I still want to go as fast as possible!) but I'm just saying that I'll bet a lot of the mower racers in this country started out the same way I did.

They don't need someone putting them down, they just need encouraged in the right direction.

Brian if you're looking for a little seat time, and want to learn a little more about mower racer, feel free to come on up to one of our events.  We race next Tuesday in Paris, IL at the Edgar County Fair, and we also race on a pretty regular basis in St. Bernice, IN.  Find us on facebook or visit our website at www.wemowfast.com

Racing for money, with a "run-what-ya-brung" type of rule setup,  definitely isn't ideal, but it's a chance to get our sport in front of a crowd.  I'll have fun racing with my little flathead anyway...

Is there going to be just one heat??

They'll be a handful of the WVMR guys there as well.  Should be a good time.
