Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: stock aluminium rockers
« on: October 21, 2013, 01:17:50 pm »
You can only get them off of engines used as far as I know. You will have to check the code numbers on the shroud ti determine if they are on the engine without removing a valve cover.  The engines made after code  931031xx  but made before code 960401xx  have the cast aluminum rockers with a rocker arm shaft. These are the codes out of the Vanguard v-twin repair manual from Briggs. That should put the years at 93 - 96 when the heads were used. Most of the ones I have seen are on 14 - 18 h.p. v-twins both vertical and horizontal shaft engines.  I am not aware of any you can buy New, but I could be wrong. Hope this helps.

You are needing the dipstick and dipstick tube, is that correct?  Have you tried checking local salvage/scrap yards? Or your local mower shops that have mowers sitting around that they take parts from or take in as trades?  I have a buddy that runs a mower shop and he has several of those engines , but I do not know what he would have to have for the part you need.  A local shop near you should have one .

Here is a link to the SPEED TV show GEARZ that shows a cheap way to make your own copper spoon for backing holes as you weld them up.

Here is a link to the UPS site for figuring shipping cost and delivery time.

https://wwwapps.ups.com/ctc/request?loc=en_US&WT.svl=PNRO_L1

here is the postal calculator

http://postcalc.usps.com/

Not every item you may sell will fit into flat-rate postal boxes due to the odd and unusual sizing of the boxes and the items being sold. You will want to  locate some local stores that will allow you to  have boxes they will be throwing out  so you don't have to pay for boxes. You will also want to box each item as if it is ready to ship with packing materials , etc.  You will need to weigh the box and get outside dimensions because you will need both when figuring shipping cost. Hope some of this helps.

Not sure what it is a clone of. I don't know the specific details on it. It has the looks of a Briggs, but I would have to do some checking to find out more.  These motors just started being put on the units made in the last 6 or 7 months.

It's a China made engine. It is a cheaper engine for MTD to put on their mowers. They started using them last fall. Probably will see them more and more n the future.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Horizontal vanny sidecovers
« on: January 06, 2012, 09:33:40 pm »
If you are looking to just buy a side cover, DO NOT BUY THIS ONE LISTED ON EBAY!!  If you will notice in the second picture, with the inside showing, look above the bearing where the camshaft SHOULD be riding against the block. You can see through the hole in the block and see the off-white color of the surface the side-cover is laying on being photographed.  The seller lists this as a used part which needs cleaned and/or painted to be usable. This is UNTRUE. I sent this seller messages questioning the hole in the part and never got a response before it went out and he has it re-listed again.  BEWARE!!

Kohler Engines / Differences between 22 HP and 25 hp v twin
« on: November 04, 2011, 05:31:35 pm »
Just thought I would ask you in-the-know Kohler experts what the differences are between the 22 hp v twin and the 25 hp v twin vertical and horizontal motors.  And can you take a 22 block and make a 25??by boring re-sleeving?? is it a crank and rod difference? Just wanting to get a little input. Thanks.

Coffee Shop / For Sale Section Suggestions
« on: October 22, 2011, 01:30:24 am »
This posting is directed to the moderators.

I have had some dealings with an issue I am sure others have also had. I have either responded to a request from someone looking for a part or just had something for sale. The person will tell me they want the item I have, I figure shipping costs , notify them, and then ---nothing in return--- no payment , no returned messages., no return phone calls.  Or they just start to make excuses like , it will be Monday, or next Friday, or whatever else to put it off till later. After a couple of weeks you figure out that they have no intention of buying , much less having the guts to tell you they changed their mind.  I do not appreciate having to spend money on boxes big enough to ship something like a motor, the tape to hold it together , and getting  shipping cost figured and then have it sit in a corner of my house for a month during which I have sent several messages to the person, and made several phone calls and left voice mails each time, and get no reply.   I know if the buyers doing this were selling items they would want to be paid as soon as possible, also. Wouldn't they????

So, basically what I am asking the moderators is , can you add something in the sales section asking ALL potential buyers to promptly notify a seller if they change their mind so we can sell to someone who intends to pay promptly?

Moderators :  I apologize for the length of this posting, but I just needed to vent and I believe this is an issue that needs addressed. Thanks.
