Briggs Flathead / Rebuild question
« on: October 23, 2008, 07:07:49 pm »
I have a GTR 31 with E.C. Dominator and all the goodies. I have about 20-25 races on it. It isn't smoking or loosing power, I change oil every 2 races with Mobil 1. How many races do you guys expect to get before you have to go through it and freshen it up?

Thanks,
Pork Chop

I have a 25 head that I moved my plug over the piston on, but never heard of a 2 plug set up on a mower for that purpose.

Paul is correct, this is not legal for ARMA/US racing. I wanted to see if it made a difference, and at the time I could run it by our rules.

My mower does the same thing on grass. On dirt it sticks good. Loosing traction is not all bad...as long as you don't loose too much, it allows you to keep your RPMs up in the corners. I have found on my mower, thinner tires on the rear helped that massively.

I took my frame a couple of years ago and had it powder coated. Cost me $100 and was well worth it!

The short was in the hot wire that goes from the starter button to the spade on the solenoid. I am assuming that it was that way during the heat race also. Anyways my battery was discharging the whole time. When I went to start it, there was just enough juice left to spark and die. I hooked the hot side of my jump box on the hot lug at the solenoid and grounded the other one, touched the wire from the spade to the hot and BINGO.

You can try here... http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Starter.shtml

There's a link to order parts for them listed there. As well as a trouble shooting list.
Thanks lots Rocky

Can you replace the solenoid on these? The ones for the ARC Flywheel. Something shorted on my mower Sat night when I went to start it. Sparks flew and then it wouldn't do anything. We jumped across the solenoid so I could run the feature. I have just started tearing into it. It could be several things, one of which is the solenoid. I have the amp meter out running through everything. I am thinking that's it's not the solenoid, just checking so if it comes to that, I will know what to do.

Thanks,

NEVER modify one and use it to cut grass, unless it's just appearance mods!! Aluminum wheels or such.
