Driveline / Dana model # 4150-54
« on: March 19, 2010, 12:28:25 pm »
I have a Dana out of a craftsman.  I plan on using a transaxle and not a live axle.  I was wondering if anyone uses this transaxle and if it's a decent one.  It's a 5 speed. I plan on swapping the motor (14hp twin) and transaxle into my Agway since it's a ton lighter than the craftsman.  I'm not sure what kind of transaxle the agway currently has, it looks very small compared to the dana but it's a 7 speed.  Looking for feedback.
thank you,

Briggs Flathead / 14 opposed carb issues
« on: March 18, 2010, 10:33:11 am »
I have a 14 hp opposed, assuming it's briggs although it says nothing but sears and craftsman on the engine.  Anyway, i've removed the carb and cleaned it out.  This is an older model.  Can't even find a model number on the engine.  I know the carb has butterflies on top where the filter sets and another butterfly at the bottom of the carb from their it splits to each cylinder.  I'm not sure how i can hook my throttle cable directly to the carb.  Well i can do it but don't know where to put a return spring.  Or maybe this is a bad idea all together.  But one of the clips that holds the metal connecting rods to the levers has broken off and i can not find any parts anywhere by googleing.  There is a series of levers and such directly behind the carb on the block.  The carb doesn't actually attach to the block itself.  I need help real bad.  I'm clueless.  Does anyone have this similar engine, from what you can tell anyways by my explanation. When i move my throttle up and down it doesn't move the throttle on the carb.  Something in the levers behind the carb isn't working right.  My choke works fine, but it's attached directly to the top butterfly.  The assembly i'm confused on that sits directly behind the carb attached to the block is a series of springs and levers.  Seems kind of pointless to even have all this back there if i can just find a way to attach throttle cable directly to the throttle on the carb.  Sorry for being so dumb with these questions but after hours of searching the web don't know where else to turn.

Drag Mowers / Chassis for Drag Racing
« on: March 08, 2010, 09:30:29 am »
Do you guys stretch your chassis any for drag racing?  I seen some use wheelie bars and some don't. i didn't know if there was enough torque where the chassis should be stretched.  i do plan on re-enforcing it. Also can someone inform me the best method for installing a kill switch.  Sorry for lame questions but i want to keep this thing as safe as possilbe just starting out.

Drag Mowers / Kentucky Racing
« on: March 05, 2010, 02:12:58 pm »
Anyone know of racing clubs in Kentucky?  I'm new to all this but very interested.  I had started building an older cub for racing some time ago but kids came along and i had to get rid of it.  Now i'm to the point i can start back in and i'm starting with an Agway.  But i'd really like to find a local place to go to see how they are setting everything up.  I'm interested in drag racing.  This site is awesome, i just joined yesterday and have learned so much right off the bat.
