Title: Building a 23hp vanguard
Post by: Cnrenner on August 15, 2018, 01:52:14 pm
I am new to this site and asking for some advice. I have a 23hp vanguard on a mud motor i would like to up the hp to between 30 and 35 hp and maybe turn a few more rpms too. But what do i need to do to this stock motor to see them results would like to keep it cheap n fast. If you guys can give me some pointers n maybe some sites to get parts from that would be great. Thank you in advance.

I understand fast isnt cheap but what i was meaning is bilt on stuff i dont really want to have to tear down n put new crank, rods n pistons in to make fast if all possible i would just assume to keep bottom end stock

If you don't put better rods in it you won't be able to rev it to where it can make some power,The stock rod are probably good  for about 4500 RPM and you will need to run it almost twice that high to get some power out of it,more compression makes more power too so you should mill the heads, then you will need a better camshaft too.The 23 HP heads are some of the best flowing but they need porting  and better valves springs and retainers. The stock rocker arms are not much good for racing either

The most important question here is longtail or surface drive which is your setup?
