Coffee Shop / Odd question about "briggs paint"
« on: August 26, 2011, 04:19:47 pm »
Someone on youtube came to me asking what color name or what color code briggs paint is on a red 5 horse I/C flathead. I generally use krylon paint, its not a pefect match, but i've been wandering this myself in case i ever have to paint one for someone who wants a perfect match. Thanks Guys!

Got a new camshaft and oil sump from Kutt_N_Dgrass81 and it runs better than it ever did, but after it was running for 20 minutes, then there is meteal particles in the oil, not a whole lot but enough to cause some damage, so i'm gonna do a oil change and run it again, then if it does it again, i'll tear it down and inspect everything again.

Briggs Flathead / Overheated 12.5 horse, check this out!
« on: August 11, 2011, 08:10:15 pm »
Alright guys, i need your opinion on this engine. This came off a grass cutter. It overheated becasue of 2 things, one he was cutting 3 foot high wet grass and 2 grass  blew in the fins blocking them up, it got so hot the muffler glowed cherry red and his dad lit a cigarette off it. Tore it down, all the inside of the crank case is a golden brown color from the oil baked in. then i find a crack behind the valves, and a broken valve guide bushing, way to much piston play in the cylinder. look at the pics and tell me what you all think, thanks guys!

Coffee Shop / Flywheel nut size...
« on: August 01, 2011, 07:53:19 pm »
Hey a while back i stripped the threads out on the flywheel nut on my 14.5 briggs model 28, and i was wandering what is the thread size of this nut and what is the briggs part number for this nut, and remember this is the type with a actual nut not a bolt that goes in the crank, asking for the part number because none of my parts diagrams show the number for the nut. Thanks guys, appreciate it.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Bent Camshaft
« on: July 23, 2011, 02:21:33 pm »
When my 14.5 (model 28) threw a rod last spring, turns out it bent the camshaft (stock), they usually break, never had one bend before. Is there any way i can straighten this or should i just keep a eye out for a good used one, or could a machine shop do anything with it? if not anyone on here have one they could sell me pretty cheap? thanks guys

KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A STOCK ENGINE WITH NO MODIFICATIONS. Reassembling the 14.5 OHV Briggs and Stratton Model 28. (concentrating more on the OHV part of the engine) Put it back together ran great, better than ever, then it sheared the flywheel key, as you can tell by it backfiring. Then i put another one in it, tightened the nut down then the threads stripped out. I will do another update on this eventually if i get another crankshaft or have this one fixed. Thanks for watching and sorry you didn't see it running in this video.

Coffee Shop / Stripped threads on crankshaft...
« on: June 29, 2011, 05:48:11 pm »
Well i did something last night that i've never seen before...

I was reassembling a stock 14.5 OHV Briggs and it sheared the flywheel key after starting (not the right crankshaft for this flywheel, found out after it was put together) but that was not what caused this problem. I replaced the keyway, and when i was tightening the nut (not bolt) on the crankshaft that holds the flywheel with a electric impact wrench which is what i've been using for years, the nut started slipping, i backed it back off and ALL the threads on the crank and nut are gone! so what should i do? everything else is fine on this crank, can i have it welded then turned on a lathe and then rethreaded or just take the counterweights off and junk the rest? Never had this happen before. hahaha

Post your Pics! / Broken Crankshaft
« on: May 17, 2011, 12:10:49 pm »
This is NOT my engine...

this was sent to me on youtube to see if it was fixable. Turns out the only that broke was the crankshaft, the rod is tore up a little bit on the side and is scored so a new rod and a new or used crankshaft and it will be good to go, nothing else is wrong with it!!! looks like the rod seized to the crankshaft and instead of throwing the rod, it broke the crankshaft. just thought you all might like to see this!!! (maybe it should be in coffee shop???) check out these pictures in my photobucket album...
