We all try to save some time and money where we can. Steering and brakes are not
the two places to do that. So get you some good 1 x 2 thick wall for the front beam
and get you the well your own parts from EC to finish it off, and have some good
steering geometry to boot.

Worst crossbar as you call it in the mowers.
Out of the 40 mowers I have torn down, only
about 3 were not damaged to reuse on a grasscutter.
I sent you a message.

So then my best bet, for budgetary purposes would be to grab some steel and fab up a new cross bar? I can handle that, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t feasible to use the stock crossbar first. Any where I can shave time is good, and where I can’t save time, at least I can save $$ on the few things I’m comfortable fabbing myself.

Thanks - I figured they were different.  I havent taken it apart yet, but I assume yes it has a screen/pickup in the sump.   I guess I will plan on getting it welded.  I assume that the material is cast aluminum?

There are 3 different styles of pans that all bolt on, you have to take it off and look.

Stock mtd front ends are for mowing. So nothing is what I would advise.

All I would realistically “reusing” is the crossbar, (welded in place, instead of floating). Not sure how that is any different from buying a new piece of box tubing and welding it in.

So since E.C. doesn’t ship to Canada anymore (thanks to all the complaints about shipping costs) and my budget doesn’t really have room right now anyway, I’d like to know what I can do with the stock mtd axle. I have some ideas of what I need to do but I’d like to hear the thoughts from the masters before I go too crazy.

It seems like the castor should be ok as is, not sure about the toe or camber on the stock axle though.

I would definatly fab up some new spindles, I don’t think the factory ones are “up to snuff”, and of course a direct steering setup.

So, your turn, what do I need to do to use the stock axle?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: 44S977 wiring - help please

One of those wires will be kill wire, the others are charging system.
Which charging system does motor have?
All I know is it’s a 16amp alternator/charging system.

Ive found google results that say charging system, some that say one of the wires is something to do with oil pressure, and an array of other results.
