Driveline / jack shaft gearing & ratio
« on: February 25, 2011, 03:48:20 pm »
Ive been going over some gear ratio's and can't seem to decide on witch would be the best one to start off with.
I have a star clutch w/17 t 15x8x8 rear tires ,16 hp vanguard.
   35#       35#     40#      40#
1. m/17   in/34   out/15  axle/52  = 6.93;1
2. m/17   in/34   out/15  axle/60  = 8.00;1
3. m/17   in/32   out/13  axle/48  = 6.95;1
4. m/17   in/34   out/17  axle/60  = 7.06;1
I was using the chart on ec's web site to get all of these figures but what Iam worried about is the the rpm's it listed for the jackshaft at the bottom of the page.
The jack shaft is a soild 1" axle...

I've read some posts about over/under driving the jack shaft and wounder if any of these ratio's will cause any issue ....any input would be great.......

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 16 hp vanny, crank length(horizontal)
« on: February 21, 2011, 11:43:02 am »
I have a enforcer clutch from heeters that mounts on the motor with the sproket outbourd.
My issue is the crank is snot is about 3" or so and the depth of the clutch is 1 1/2 ,I think that puts the clutch way too far out to th left.
My concern is that it will vibrate or possobly bend /brake the crank in the long run,Can I cut 3/4" of of the crank to help pull it in a bit or should I find a shorter crank and or go with a differnt clucth?

it looks like i can just swap out pans and intake to make it a horazontal but i still need to see if the heads have a diffrent oilying set up.
I can say the cam looks realy weak!!!and tht there is no one offering after market cams for this motor yet or ever, so we'LL see

Chassis / frame stiffing

I have read a few posts on builds but no one has said what wall thickness that they were useing .
I have used 3/4 sq. .120 wall for most of my builds , but is .060 wall too thin in a 1 sq, for more than just reinforcing?

my concerns with it is that the crank shaft is longer having to go through the fly and then a clucth set up, that it may be too long of shaft to support the load of racing.

gxv610 18 hp honda., I was looking at the block and it seems I can bolt it down as a horazontal . It looks like I would have to change the sump pan and intake seystems but is that all? Im not sure but it looks like the block would be the same and rotating assembly would be the same .
I got the motor for free so if I can convert it to horazontal that would be better in the long run for me.

Coffee Shop / Re: New West Coast Dealer

When gas got realy high a few years ago every retailer was adding a (fuel sur charge) for there deliveries, since then gas has come down but the "sur charge" is still there.
(at lest in my job profession).
It started off to help cover costs but they realized after gas came down that they were making a fair amount of 98.0% of free gross profit so they keep it.

Now i undner stand if your shipping somthing useing a out side source like ups or the post office as they would chagre a fee becuase thats what they do to make money ,but for someone or a small buisness to mark up shipping to compensate for their hourly employee that had to put in a box or drive to the post office is wrong.(thats the cost of doing buisness).Plus most dealers will have a ups or fedx guy on route that will pick up out going packages at no extra charge,(just the charge of the package)"unless they they have a fuel sur charge"

....and yes I know my spelling sucks....
