Briggs Flathead / oppy rods
« on: June 29, 2013, 04:53:54 pm »
I have a 42 oppy that I built as per g team video and rooster oil mods, billet flywheel with a stock cam exhaust springs on both intake and exhaust and 40 rods with shortened 28 pistons, now Ive  scored the  stock lower rod twice on this engine, what is the cheapist way to get this back on the track, my problem is that the arc rods are made for 42 right, and my pistion are shaved and will come up short, right? I really don't want to again buy new piston and rings and rods is there any way I could use my pistions that are all ready shaved, with arc rods, I may have access to all three crank shafts 40,42,46 just thinking out loud would a 46 crank and 42 rods get me close to the same as a 42 crank and 40 rods? where a could reuse my pistons with arc rods

Briggs Flathead / flat head briggs
« on: May 13, 2013, 11:14:39 pm »
I know this is not a kart forum, just pick up my first racing kart(because we only race or mowers a couple times a year) it has a flat head briggs that runs on methanol, I know there a lot of smart people on this forum that maybe could answer some of my questions, what kind of head temp should I be looking for, I hav no idea what has been done to he inside of the engine, but was built by racing engine builder, what kind of rpms should I be try to maintain? any thing you can tell me about a flat head brigg kart motor may help, again I understand this is not a kart forum but I see a lot of the same thing done to this motor as I did to my oppy

Briggs Flathead / OPPY ROD #2
« on: August 07, 2012, 10:12:29 pm »
ok i seize two stock rods on my 42 oppy both the lower rods thought the first rod was out of round after honing, installed a new one and score that rod but look very different than the first completely scored all the way around very even. what did i do wrong? oil hole facing the slinger side of engine? yup. rod clearance .004 yup.
all rooster oil mods? yup. i know, i know, i should of put arc rods in, hind sight is aways 20/20 but i have new shaved pistons and 40 rods so the way i see it i can only run arc rods if i install new pistons and rods and sell the one i have for scrap. i'm i wrong by saying that others have run stock rods and made an oppy live? why the lower rod not the top rod? help me please

Briggs Flathead / need input on oppy rods
« on: June 11, 2012, 07:39:47 pm »
ok last fall i built my first oppy for a local lawnmower drag race (one race a year so far) with some of your guys help and a g team dvd. well the day before the big race i locked up the lower rod during a test run i think i only did damage to the rod itself . i'm running stock rods Part 392370 40 ci that i had clearanced .004 in think? well the big race is come up again i got to get her running again, my question is should i just order a new rod and have it clearanced again btw i think the failure was due to the rod being out of round, that was my fault, should had the machinist clearance from the start. or can i have someone machine in bearing into the rods i have? a local guy says he can do it, from what i understand he wouldn't charge me a lot.will that work? i read in another post there may not be enough mat'l left after the machining? a little background its a 42 splashlube with a billet flywheel ,stock cam, all oil mods ,40 rods with shaved piston ,exhaust spring on both intake valves, ported and polished, remote fuel pump, catch can. i know.......... i know i should havn't been so cheap a bought the billet rods but this is a once a year race so far and i got enough time and money into so far jsut want to get her up a running for the race

Coffee Shop / one class racing
« on: September 15, 2011, 08:47:39 pm »
ok , i'm a newbie to circle track lawnmower racing i've built a drag mower with an oppy, ungraded chassis and drivetrain , now i'm thinking of building a club legal circle track mower this winter. for two reasons their has been a local dirt kart track build in my town i want to drum up interest locally to also run mowers their if the owner will allow it but i like to have a safe mowchine to show people that want to race, and also the track owner. the second reason  i know there is mower racing 3-5 hr Away from home which i maybe  make a few races but not alot i would like to build off some sort of rules so i could race there too.I live in northern minnesota from what i hear there is mower racing in the surrounding states and i think southern minnesota also. i'm thinking of building a chassis and running a ungovnered flat head 28 cu  which class  and club would this best fit under in my region? i'm thinking this would be a good class to start a local racing group for cost of build and easy of getting parts and so on, we would start out with one class and work are way up, you input would be great. btw this my be only a dream

Briggs Flathead / newbie opposed twin build?
« on: August 07, 2011, 09:27:59 pm »
ok guys, got my 42 opposed tore down ordering parts for the build just a couple of ? for the ones who know! my plan is to use stock rods 40 rods and cut the pistons down to fit but as i read an old post of roosters more4less has used vanguard rods from 26 cube single his is pressure lube mine will be splash lube after looking at a vanguard manual some them were also splash lube correct me if im wrong. just wondering if the vanguard rods,do they have the same size crank pin and wrist pin, or were they made to fit how much would u have to cut the piston or would they come up short with a 42 crank. which pistons are guys running 696397? when order seal and gaskets, just the heads, crank seals ,exhaust gaskets, goop the rest or do i need the intakes and carb gaskets or just goop them too. just trying to order only what i need nothing more nothing less.  fyi this is my first opposed build but not my first time this deep into a engine your help is greatly appreciated  if the vanguard rods are the way to go a part # would help alot yes i know arc makes great billet rods but im going to be cheap and run stock rods

« on: January 06, 2011, 08:13:54 pm »
just wondering if billet rods are nessasary in my oppy, are they a must have in a oppy build, just think they are a big chunk of change (im not willing to go cheap on being safe thats not my ?) or is there a stock rod that will work better then others? parts#s would be nice, or just run the ones that came in it with some oil mods, kinda wondering what the baddest bird in the barn yarn is running for rods in his oppy? :D

Drag Mowers / tranny?
« on: December 22, 2010, 07:03:48 pm »
right now i'm running a 500 peerless ragb thinkn switching it to a 700 peerless tranny when i find one, which should be simple but having thoughts of running a 1 to 1 ragb to kept from having to shift, not sure this will work in a drag racing mower or not, was running a stock 11hp briggs switchn to a not so stock 18hp oppy, were racing 100ft drags, some on dirt some on tar, what is the norm in the drag racing world? any input on perfered drivetrans would help me make up my mind as of now i shift my 500 ragb during the race but hope my new motor will give me enough power to kept from having to shift   i like to stick with the live axl with my disc brakes setup on it. any input good or bad is great thanks
