Briggs Flathead / Dense Heavy Duty Starters - Part numbers that work?
« on: September 29, 2016, 07:28:52 pm »
Hi everyone, Looking to purchase a Denso starter for my flathead build. I have found multiple starters on Ebay for good prices but am not positive that they will work with the ARC flywheel.

Any help or info is appreciated! A starter I'm looking at has the part number 806448. If this one will work, let me know!

Thanks

Driveline / 1" Rear Axle Pros/Cons
« on: August 31, 2015, 11:50:58 am »
Hey guys, I'm running a 1" axle in my Mod-XR and was wanting some input.

I've competed in two races and everything has been great, no problems.

So I was wondering if I would be okay moving up to a class like SP with the 1" axle?

Thanks-
Nico

Driveline / Mod XR / GP Gearing
« on: April 23, 2015, 11:58:23 am »
Hey guys-

Have my Mod XR mower all buttoned up but some people have been saying that its too slow for the class, it has a 5 to 3 pulley ratio to a Peerless 700 and a 12 to 48 sprocket ratio. I used an app on the Iphone for finding a top speed, and it goes about 36 MPH.

So What I want to know, is how does that speed/ratio sound? Too slow?

Any feedback would be great!

Thanks

Driveline / Belt Guides, Both Pulleys?
« on: March 25, 2015, 08:53:29 pm »
Hey guys,

Im to the stage where I need belt guides installed, before I can give the Mod XR mower a test, but I was wondering if Belt guides were necessary on both front and rear pulley? The clutch loosens the belt u quite a bit but the belt still grabs both pulleys when rotated by hand - could definitely pose an issue if somethings not done...

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Nico

Chassis / Steering too tight, Looking for other options!
« on: January 28, 2015, 01:51:46 pm »
Hey guys and girls,

My old steering set up is a bit tight and is hard to steer with the engine installed. So now Im looking for alternative set ups that I could build.

I want to stay away from the popular underneath direct set up because Im running a MTD frame with 4" ground clearance. But Ive heard of some simple designs that pop out the side of the frame without a bell crank... Any help would be VERY much appreciated!

Thanks,
Nico

Post Your Video / New Mod XR Steering finished!
« on: December 24, 2014, 03:32:59 pm »
Hi Guys!

Here's a video of my Mower's steering. I have been debating whether to weld the pitman arm onto the bell crank and create almost no play, but have it unremovable.. or to leave the 1/4 of play thats currently in the whole set up and be able to remove the bell crank. Give me your input because Im split on what I should do!

Post your Pics! / Mod-XR steering close to done
« on: December 10, 2014, 09:10:38 pm »
Hi guys,

Ive been working on a new steering design for my mower that goes along the side of the frame due to the low ground clearance. Ill try and get some pictures up what its finished soon! Its a bell crank design with a pitman arm off it to the side which connects to an arm off the steering columb... if that makes sense to you guys.

thanks,
Nico

« on: October 13, 2014, 06:26:04 pm »
Hi guys, picked up a Peerless 717 A 4 speed transmission and everything looks good. But one thing worries me... It sports a 3/8 output shaft with threads on the end. Any ideas or tips? Im thinking it will be okay, but itl be hard finding a 3.5" Pulley for it!

Thanks,
Nico

Driveline / BP Pulley/Sprocket Ratios
« on: September 09, 2014, 07:56:03 pm »
Hey guys,

Over the winter Im building my Race Mower to speeds similar to a BP Im guessing.. I want to get a top speed around 50 MPH. My Race association has some different class names and specs so Im trying to get a sense of how fast I want it. Im going to run a Peerless 717 Transmission to a Live Axle, with 13" Rear Tires. Let me know what you think because Im not sure how to gear this set up to get 50 MPH in 4th gear (4 speed trans.) Im also running a 17hp Briggs OHV single with an EC Carb on it.

Any help would be great!

Nico
