We went to Berlin Saturday and looked at the track. The grass has taken it over but a little roundup and a motorgrader should fix it up. It may be awhile before we know any specifics on a race there but I will keep you guys informed.

Sorry Guys. I've fallen down on my job. We haven't gone and looked at it yet but I promise we'll get it done soon. May get out there this afternoon. We've been busy in the garden and repairing racing mowers for the next season but i'll get it done.

You'll get a lot of info here, All you need probably, but go talk to your local guys whether  you know them or not. Most mower racers are more than happy to spend a little time with you and show you their setup. Good Luck.

I talked to the Mayor of Berlin today and he is interested in getting the track going again. I know lots of you guys ran here years ago and I'd like to see what kind of interest is out there if he gets it up and going again. He said there was a national event there once so maybe it'll get some of you back in South Georgia. We weren't into racing then so I've never been to the track but probably will go look at it this weekend. Post up if you have raced there or are interested in coming. Thanks.

Kohler Engines / Re: billet flywheel question.
« on: May 07, 2014, 03:11:37 pm »
Thanks Cromwell. He modified his cooling fins to work but had to balance the flywheel when he added the magnet. Looks like they would balance them for the magnet but I guess some may be running some sort of electronic ignition. I know nothing much about these kohlers.

Kohler Engines / billet flywheel question.
« on: May 06, 2014, 04:22:15 pm »
A friend of mine and fellow racer is running a kohler single. What flywheel are you guys running? He ordered one but it didn't come with cooling fins and had to change over the ring gear and magnet. I think he got it from west coast super cub. That may be wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I run Briggs so I'm not much help to him. Thanks guys.

Coffee Shop / Re: Question for the veteran auto mechanics
« on: January 26, 2014, 05:38:39 pm »
I've been an auto mechanic working for independent garages for 34 years now. At this time I work for a guy that has had his own business for over 40 years and he would love to sell and quit. Problem is no buyers. He's 70 years old and I'm 56. We are the only two there and I barely make ends meat. He doesn't work so I'm the only worker and I work on a percentage. What I'm trying to say is don't build a business with the thoughts of selling it to retire because that's what he had in mind till the bottom fell out of this economy.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: 31 non AVS timing problem I think
« on: November 01, 2013, 05:43:16 pm »
Thanks guys. That's what I did Lester. Just can't believe how high of timing I was running. I moved the flywheel back and went back to 2 marks advance. We'll see how it does. I can always adjust at the track with the set screws.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 31 non AVS timing problem I think
« on: November 01, 2013, 01:43:52 pm »
I decided to check the timing on this engine today. I have an ARC flywheel on it and have been running it advanced 2 marks. When I got my degree wheel and set TDC I put the light on it and couldn't believe how high it was. I reset TDC just to make sure I was right and it came up the same. I set the flywheel all the way negative and it's showing to be at 36 degrees advance. What to do? Move the flywheel seems the only option. Have yall run in to this. Got a race tomorrow so if you guys can shed a little light on this I'd appreciative. I've done the search thing but didn't get a specific answer.    Thanks Guys.

We have our brake and clutch side by side on the left side with the accelerator on the right. Leaves your hands free to do what they need to be doing. DRIVING.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: 28 balanced

We had a 21 CI avs briggs that didn't have any balance weights inside. It had the same bore as a 28 flathead with a short stroke.

Check your needle and seat in the carb Mike. If the fuel level isn't right in the bowl it'll cause that problem. I've seen some needles swell on the end and restrict flow.

You could do all that to adapt an Automotive tach or just buy one from Orielly Auto parts that will hook up. It'll hook to the kill wire on the coil or the plug wire. I think I gave around 80 dollars for mine. It has a light in it and hasn't given me any trouble so far. If ya'll are interested I'll get you the part number and brand.
