Driveline / Sprockets
« on: February 04, 2009, 10:11:35 pm »
I understand this subject has been coverd numerous times already but I do not want to mess up. I am trying to set up the gearing on my a/p.

What do you guys think about a 16tooth sprocket on the output of my 700, and a 44tooth on the axle. with a 6" pulley on the motor and a 5" on the transmission. I dont want to be over geared but i also dont want to be undergeared. This is also with 13" rear tires. Is this a good pulley and sprocket combo? Thank's.

Driveline / My IMOWs drive line
« on: December 19, 2008, 06:00:38 pm »
For my imow, Im running a peerless 820-022A. Im not getting the full 817 kit because i still want the 12:1 ratio so i can still use my acme imow pulleys.

Do the 817's come with differential carriors that have a 1" bore and 1/4" key way? I would like to slide a 1" axle right threw so i can make it locked and get the width i need. Can i do this? Part #? thank's John

Briggs Flathead / Non-Syncro balanced 8hp vs. syncro balanced
« on: October 26, 2008, 07:49:01 pm »
Building the motor for my A/P and not sure if should start out with, a Syncro-balanced 8hp or a non-syncro balanced 8hp (meaning it never came with a syncro balance from the factory) Would I still have to send my crank out to get balanced if I were to use a non-syncro balanced motor? Which motor would be better to use? I am going the whole nine yards with this motor (flywheel, carb, cam, rod, springs, valves, lots of billet pieces, etc)

Racing Mower Builds / My A/P, PALMRA
« on: October 23, 2008, 09:13:53 pm »
Well, I was building a MTD C/P. But since then I been many races and really considering doing A/P instead. Being 5ft11" and 140lbs I think I can fit pretty good on a small mower such as an a/p. Plus after test driving 2 a/p's in my group (palmra) I’ve been hooked on doing this class over c/p. And the c/p that I was half way finished from completing, My dad will be racing that mower this coming season. Here is the old thread on that.

http://www.heymow.com/index.php?topic=7558.0

Here is what I'm starting out with. It is a 1967 huffy. I’ve had this thing laying around in pieces for years.

And here it is right now.

All done with only 2 days of work so far. It has a 1" kart axle, MCP hydraulic kart brakes, 6x7.25x6 kart rims all the way around, It will have a pretty aggressive 8hp briggs too. The frame has been boxed in with 1"x1/8" flat stock. Cant wait to continue building this mower

« on: September 01, 2008, 10:47:20 pm »
It was a great week. I didn’t do so well but I had fun. Every turn I had to fight to keep the inside, mower just wanted to push forward. Other then that I made it threw the whole week with out braking down or getting DQ’ed. It was a pleasure to meet Randy in person. It was awesome to see that f/x in person after reading the build thread over and over. I am already looking forward to next years National’s. This was by far the best race I’ve ever been to. Thanks to the USLMRA staff and helpers that make this possible for us. -John

Here's some pics from today. We are having a double header weekend so back out to racing tomarrow. I took 2nd in the heat, And was holding 3rd for about 7 laps in the feature before my left rear wheel comletley lossend up and came off the axle. Sending me all over the track. Well, i got that all fixed now for tomarrow so hopfully i will be alright. Also thanks to Ronnie Sowers for lending me a carb for my motor this weekend, If it was not for him, I would surely not be racing this week.
