Garden Tractor Pulling / Re: Motor Pully
« on: April 17, 2010, 01:09:07 am »
I used to run a 3in front pulley on the engine with a 4 inch idler a 4 inch clutch pulley and a 7 or 8in pulley on the rearend. I pulled in 3rd gear which was my high gear and it worked well for me. It didnt really slip only when the belt had a lot of runs on it. Keep an eye on the belt I used to check mine after each pull and before each pull aswell by measureing the width and depth. Im sure by checking the belt for wear and not letting it get to worn that this setup will work for you as it did for me. Hope this helps you.

Briggs Flathead / Re: 10hp Briggs Flat Head Question
« on: April 08, 2010, 12:46:05 am »
I am sorry for seeming hateful and i like to have fun as much as the next guy. Realy the question i was asking was what parts will interchange from say a 12hp engine. Im pretty sure mines a 25cube but ill check in a day or two ive been covered up with odd jobs this week. I dont know what the stroke is yet i havent got a chance to measure as ive been so buisy. I didnt mean to make any one mad for the post i was just looking for answers and all it seemed like i was getting was put down instead of that. I proboly would have known that if i would have known those guys better but i dont. that may be my misfortune I dont know. I was having a bad day anyway and when i got around to reading what they had said i took it as a put down. Whether it was or not im sorry. Does anyone know the difference in a horizontal flywheel and a vertical if so what are they ballanced different. Has any one tried to use a kohler carb on a briggs engine i know not all engine from kohler and briggs came with walboros but some did so iwas woundering if you would have to make a flange or would it just bolt up. I was also woundering if anyone tried to convert their engine to an external coil like the kohlers use if so what would you have to do to do this thanks

You see thats the problem its my time and my money. So i can do what i please with it. My understanding when joining this forum was to get help ask question get answers and help others when you can aswell. If i wanted to get on here and let people bash what im doing with out even asking why im doing it or what im looking to achieve then id ask for that. All I did was ask a simple question and i was wanting a straight forward answer, not some one looking to put me down to feel better about them selves or what theyre doing. Besides an engine isnt the only part of the equation there is other things involved. chassis design, overall weight, handling, gearing, tires, bearings, brakes ect. you get the point, You can have all the engine you want or whatever and thats not gonna win races on a crappy designed chassis. So i would appreciate it if you would not chime in unless your gonna give me answers to my questions, no matter how dumb they may seem to you i didnt ask you how dumb it is. Thanks Josh

Briggs Flathead / 10hp Briggs Flat Head Question
« on: April 05, 2010, 04:38:11 pm »
Any one know where I could get performance parts for my 10hp flat head engine. Like to find out also what parts may interchange from larger engines. I know some carbs will interchange from larger flat singles but other than that what. Thanks Josh

Kohler Engines / Re: what does this mean
« on: March 20, 2010, 03:43:58 pm »
well i do know its a kohler but and im pretty sure its a k181 but i got it and it had no carb no fly wheel no starter no exhaust the breather cover was even gone just the block with the internals still intact and the bearing plate and oil pan were on it and thats about it the points condensor and starter every thing gone so i downloaded the manual from kohler to aid in putting it back together but it will be a while before that happens gonna get it machined a little first. but what do the numbers stand for K262 i still have no clue

Kohler Engines / what does this mean
« on: March 19, 2010, 11:33:46 pm »
I have what I believe is a K181. Thats what I was told when i got it, it had no tin and no head. It has the same amount of bolt wholes on the head  side of the block as the K161 and K181. What im woundering is what are the numbers cast in the bearing palte side of the block. They read K2612 i didnt know what this meant ive never paid any attention befor i know its an old engine it even had the cast govenor in it. thanks
