Driveline / 2 speed peerless 700 and adding additional gears
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:07:32 pm »
Guys I'm currently using a factory 2 speed peerless 700 out of  Murray Lawn Chief.  I'm finding out that this seems to be a rarity, as I've never even heard of anyone else having a 2 speed.  Would it be worthwhile to add a couple more gears (small adjustment up and down from 1:1)?  Also, I've heard there are certain transaxles that you can rob gears out of, that are direct fit into these 700's.  Is that true, and if so, what model tranaxle?

Thanks in advance.

Briggs Flathead / Walbro Carb - loose throttle blade screws
« on: May 06, 2012, 08:22:32 am »
Has anyone ever had this happen to them?  During some practice laps last night, had my mower throttle stick wide open.  Immediately shut the mower down, and pulled off of the track, assuming I broke a return spring.  Come to find out, my screws in the throttle blade disappeared, and the blade was jammed in the mouth of the intake.  Engine made no funny noise, so I'm assuming that it puked them out the exhaust, but I won't know until I pull the head.

How in the world can I keep that from happening again???  Those little screws aren't part of my normal pre-race inspection , and I'm not sure how much good loctite will do, since they are extremely short and have very little thread.

Looking for racers interested for an Exhibition Race at the Champaign County Fair, in Urbana, IL.  This race will be on July 27th with the time to be announced.  Might be a convenient race, for you racers that would be heading to Iowa for the STA-BIL U.S. Heartland Open on July 28th and 29th.  Urbana sits right at the intersection of Interstate 74 and Interstate 57.

There will be tow money available, and I'm in the middle of negotiations right now with the Fair Board.  With a field no larger than 12 mowers ,(2 heats before intermission and 2 heats after) I'm shooting for $50 per driver.  I will let everyone know when the details are finalized.

If interested, please let me know, as I already have 7 committed drivers already.

Driveline / Wilwood caliper and rotor thickness
« on: March 27, 2012, 11:14:48 pm »
After doing a little shopping around, I'm wondering if there is a such a thing, as a rotor that is too thin for a wilwood caliper (I believe its a dual piston dynalite??).  I'm using a caliper off of a snowmobile, and I see that rotors come in various thicknesses, from .16, all the way up to .25.  Has anyone ever used a thinner rotor with these calipers, and did it cause you any problems? does it matter?

Coffee Shop / Coke syrup tips
« on: March 13, 2012, 01:03:47 am »
Gonna be racing on coke syrup for the first time here in a few weeks.  Anyone have any setup suggestions on tire pressures, or suggestions in general?  I don't think we'll be getting any hot laps since this is a monster truck show, so it's pretty much a one shot deal to figure it out lol.

Coffee Shop / Club Formation - legal questions
« on: January 27, 2012, 09:33:12 am »
Since I've helped for a new group in our area, I'm starting to look into the legal aspects of our group.  I've done quite a bit of homework on the internet, but I'm still a little murky on the direction I need to go.  I'm mainly interested in getting set up as a non-profit group, appointing board of directors, club by-laws, etc.  I've looked at LegalZoom's website and it looks like we would qualify for a 501(c)3 group, but I'm not positive.

Do most groups mower racing groups/clubs go to all of this trouble?  Any advice or help that anyone can offer?  My main issue at this point concerns seeking club sponsorships.  I would like it, if the donations that businesses make to our club, could be tax deductable on their end.  To do this, I assume that I have to have non-profit status.  Again....any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Coffee Shop / New Club - East Central Illinois/West Central Indiana
« on: October 08, 2011, 10:04:20 am »
Having noticed a big void in lawn mower racing in downstate Illinois, I'm pleased to announce the formation of a new (non-affiliated for now) club in East Central Illinois/West Central Indiana.  Our home track is located in Oliver, IL, approximately 4 miles north of I-70, on IL Rt. 1.

We intend to have a full schedule of racing starting in 2012, and hope that some of you guys can join us next year.  We will be following ARMA rules, and hope to become a local chapter in the near future.  For more information, visit us at www.wemowfast.com

Coffee Shop / Tech Inspection tachometer
« on: October 06, 2011, 11:06:26 am »
We are a new fledgling club (non affiliated at this point), and just curious what everyone uses for a tach at their tech inspections.  Is there something available out there, that is economical, and just clips onto the plug wire?  Any input is greatly appreciated.

Coffee Shop / Billet Flywheel competitors
« on: August 30, 2011, 11:43:14 am »
With a lot of groups making billet flywheels mandatory next year, has anyone heard any rumors of any new vendors coming into the market?

I realize this may be a touchy subject with ARC sponsering this board and all, but I was just curious.  Nothing beats a little friendly competition to bring down prices.

Coffee Shop / Track preparation
« on: August 28, 2011, 09:43:40 pm »
Looking for a little help.  We've got a new track, and I'm hoping someone on here can share their secrets for track preparation.  I'm mainly interested in implements used, amounts of water, when to water, dust control (heard liquid soap helps dirt retain water???), and how to keep a track from rutting and getting bumpy.

Any help or advice that you guys can offer up, would be greatly appreciated.

Finally finished my mower build.  This site has been a huge help, and I don't know how I would have finished without it.
