Briggs Flathead / Re: 42 oppy build governor gear questions

Thank you for the reply now that I’m looking again the gear I was referring is in fact the oil slinger. Will not lie does concern me having a plastic oil slinger supplying oil to the engine would of thought they’d make something like that out of metal

Briggs Flathead / 42 oppy build governor gear questions
« on: October 13, 2020, 12:22:22 pm »
Hey all, first time building up a 42 oppy. It may be a dumb question but it’s my first time building one of these and I have a decent amount of money into it for it to go boom prematurely. I have the arc rods and precision 212 grind cam. When reassembling do I need to keep the plastic governor gear in place or am I safe to remove that along with its little bracket that’s bolted to the oil pan? If it’s safe to remove it do I need to do anything else to the motor internally or is it just take it off and bolt the pan back on ? Thanks guys

Briggs Flathead / Re: 42ci oppy What pistons are you guys using

Hi and thanks for the reply. This info is coming straight from arc racing themselves as well as a few of the bigger distributors including jacks small engine. Arc was able to source me the part number for the 20 thousandth over piston as well but again my search keeps ending in “part no longer available”  :bash:

Briggs Flathead / 42ci oppy What pistons are you guys using

New guy here and running into a bit of confusion with this 19.5 opposed twin I’m trying to build up over the winter. I ordered the arc racing Billet rods they offer for the Briggs opposed twins and it lists that I should be using Briggs part number 792307 pistons. Now the issue I’ve run into is that this part number is now obsolete and has nothing that supersedes it. I’m faced with a dilemma that the engine I want to build up I’m not sure what pistons I’m supposed to run now and I definetly don’t want to use used pistons for obvious reasons. Can any of you guys maybe shed some light on this topic on which piston y’all are running or would recommend using in my instance? Thanks in advance guys !

Hi all, long time lurker of the forums and finally decided to join the site! My names Jeremy and I’m from southeastern ct. got a craftsman chassis with a 19.5 Briggs opposed twin motor. Not sure if you guys still use this motor any longer or if it’s gone by the wayside to the v twins but I hope to make this a fun project for myself over this winter and maybe to make it out to some of the local events.
