Not really! Sure you can take the govenor out and it may last a season and it may not. These engines were and are designed to run around 3600 rpm's.

Removing the govenor is like pulling the pin and thumbing the clip on a frag grenade, and not being able to throw it.  How long can you hold it?

Yea, but like most engines being raced, they get rebuilt once ore twice a season and doing that they seem to last a while. Luckly I have never blown a engine on a racer, but running synthetic oil with often oil changes and good matinence and correct rpms one can last.

Your right a race motor will last. But a stock motor with stock components is a time bomb at any rpm over factory settings.

There right a stock tec is a time bomb, I blew up a 55 gallon drum full trying to make stock rods hold up. Guess what NO DICE. But if you use good parts such as ARC rods and Precision cams ECT they will hold up just fine. I can get 2 seasons of races (thats 20 to 30 races) out of one build if you run good oil and change every race. This past winter after 2 seasons all I did to mine was a new rod bearing and gaskets and seals. The tec v-twin we're running now has an oiling system with a filter and It had 6 seasons of racing on the rings and rods, was still running good but was getting weak. We rebuilt it this winter and hope to get 5 or 6 more years out of it turning it 6800 to 7000 every race. We had our test-n-tune today and let george drive it and he turned it 7120 and was still pulling. Love them Indians!!  ;) Larry
