I got a 14.5 OHV Briggs model# 287707 are the rods interchangable if so what are the advanages and are the crank and pistion also interchangable also. thanks Scott

Scott I have seen on other post on here that most all in the 14.5 OHV briggs engine will fit in the 12hp flat head as long as the 14.5 isnt a INTEK.  The rod crank piston and and cam will fit.  The rod is stronger in the 14.5 and it will fit the crank of the 12 hp so you can use the crank in the 12 or the 14.5.  Just us the 14.5 piston with the 14.5 rod.  Hope this help.

Thanks guys this helps but, is the cam more of a performanoe cam than the flatty cam and do I get a performance gain when I use the rod and pistion combo?Thanks Scott

As George indicated in the other thread.... all stock replacement parts, the rod's a little tougher is the only difference... no performance gain.

cams between a flattie and ohv are NOT interchangeable!!!!!

So the 28 OHC and the 29 flatty rod & pistion swap. could I get the parts# for the rod and pistion .  Are the rings the same also? Thanks Scott

ohv rod is 494504s pistons are same depending on year of motor. some have wider rings than others.

Thanks George . Rocky said to use the pistion with the rod can you give me a starting point for part nos.? my rod was bad and the pistion well not shure. also is the oil splasher and fly wheel inerchangable. Thanks Scott

Rod #494504s and piston number is 696397 these are ohv parts that we used in the faltties using the stock crank. if not using the billet rods. And again everything internal is interchangeable EXCEPT the cams!!!! And flywheels are interchangeable.

Amongst other things, the lobes are positioned differently to accomodate location of the valve train on the OHV.
