Women in lawn mower racing
« on: September 23, 2008, 10:05:57 am »
When producing a documentary on the people who race lawn mowers it would be neglectful for me not to include the fact that few sports treat women as equals the way lawn mower racing does.  There seems to be a greater number of women in lawn mower racing than other motor sports and in non motor sports women rarely compete as equals against men.  There is the WNBA but there are no women in the NBA.  In golf women tee off from a tee closer to the hole than the men do. I am hoping that I can get some of the ladies in the sport to give me their two cents on their involvement in the sport the next time you see me at a race.

As always, thanks everyone for sharing your sport with me.

This sport is accessible.....that is why i wanted to get into it....the members of our local club make everyone feel welcome no matter what age, gender, colour...granted there are other clubs that are not necessarily as welcoming in our area but that is to everyone not just women....but getting back when my husband told me he wanted to get into lawn tractor racing i looked at him and told him he was insane....after less than one full season here we are all getting into it....even my daughters who are 4 and 8...it is something we can do together as a family and that is one of the biggest draws for me...
