If chain is present, yes it is for reverse, and it should be removed. It won't stand up under race RPMs and will be the first thing to fail in the tranny. When it does it usually results in catastrophic failure and you'll wipe out the entire tranny when it lets go.

i mix gear lube and grease it tends to stay in it longer .ya got to cut out the chaine . it will make it turn with less drag but the most important thing is with it not removed it will break and trash the whole thing as MOWDAK1 has stated and he knows what he's talkin about 8)

thanks dynamark

I may be wrong but in the rules for IMOW, it states the transaxle must be "Un-modified".  Wouldn't removing the chain fall under this catagory?

Jack you are absolutely correct. Imow must run an unmodified transaxle. You can clean it out and use thinner lube this is not modifing the transaxle. Plus the only chain destructions have been primarily in the 700 series transmissions. These are over driven much more so than any other thing out there. They are only rated for 12 foot lbs of torque and what we do to them are simply unbelieveable.

Gene, I was racing the "Mad Dog" Craftsman in IMOW but I sold it to a buddy and now I'm running a Case in IMOW.  There's a couple pictures in the "Post your Pics" section.  Good luck on your Mowchine and I'll see ya at Avon Park in September!
